those kinds of statements are better made by people who actually use and have experience with touchscreens for such purposes.

don't you think ?

The only time I ever read someone expressing such an opinion they usually have spent no more than a minute or two dicking around with a touchscreen - at most.
wait for him to sell his gear.

dunno why anyone would state that the iPad is for the studio. it's for dimwitted lemmings with empty lives. it's just a f-ing dumb terminal, and an underfeatured one at that. Apple could put out the iScissors and people would yell and shout that they re-invented the office supply industry. it's pretty funny to watch actually.

Donno,

Strong opinions abound on this one!

I don't want it as a computer, just as an affordable multi-touch interface,

Yeah i'd love several of them as then you could have one for your fx and one for your faders.

It would still work out cheaper than a mackie control and with hopefully better integration than Euphonix. . .

Of cours it's a mac product so according to Tone i and everyone else who doesn't use only pcs will be buying them without even thinking 8-0
I slipped into a daze, whilst I was there I heard the most startling music, it was at once familiar and alien, reassuring and unsettling.

I'm on the iPad now, the iElectribe is seriously fucking dope. I loved my old electribes and always regretted selling them. Not anymore.

I've only had this thing for a few hours and the potential is incredible.
Even all the haters will not be able to shit on either:
A) Full version of Live running on an iPad pro or MacBook touch whatever the frig comes next
B) ableton app for this iPad

Not a hater (I mean, I got one on the first day, right?) but I'm not impressed by the music apps I've seen so far for the iPad. I was expecting more but I guess it will take time.

On the other hand some of the other apps (The Elements, iBooks, WeatherBug etc.) are pretty cool.

see how you get on with one first.
I'm guessing you'll enjoy it for some things, but I'd be hella surprised if you were going to get rid of your tactile faders and knobs after using one. Not sure how you work though, maybe you're a ''set & forget'' type of guy. I dunno.
several iPads is alot of skrilla too... one of the unique selling points of touchscreens is the fact you can flick through pages and pages of interfaces on one physical device. Several iPads ? Ok Mr Trump - would you like those gift wrapped ?

Hey sure you'll put some thought into it before buying, it's just the sweeping statement you make about getting rid of all your controllers etc to be replaced by iPads... pretty extreme considering you haven't even used one for a day yet. I think you're just setting yourself up for big disappointment..and maybe other readers too

I look forward to what you have to say after owning an iPad for say, a month.

btw, what controllers do you have/use ?

Fair enough. Which ones have you used though?

For me, Touch OSC on this thing is awesome. I had used it on my phone for awhile, but the screen size made it only good (for me) to control a send or two in ableton, or trigger scenes. Now on this it's MUCH better.

I've never used a lemur, so I can't compare them from an experienced standpoint.
BUT.... making your own custom controllers on this with just $5 Touch OSC with $30 osculator on a $500 computer is fucking rad. Sorry to rain on the hate parade

Cool, didn't realize TouchOSC had come out with a full ipad resolution version. I've been writing my own controller software for performing, but that is certainly a nice app that will be useful to people.

The App Store is a mess now. Why isn't there an easy way to find music apps for iPad? If you choose the music category in iTunes it shows you both iPhone and iPad apps. In general the iPhone apps look bad at double size; they should have a way to just search for iPad apps.

Maybe because the iPad has only been out for 24 hours and there aren't enough iPad specific apps out yet to do that kind of breakdown.

For me, this is like the iPhone when it first came out - which is also the worst time to buy since the next few versions were alot faster, better, and cheaper.

I'll pass until they:

1 - Drop the price.
2 - Have more production apps that have been "tried and tested"

FYI, I've already e-mailed the folks that design the Lemur (Jazzmutant) and they have said they are NOT making an app for the iPad.

Hello Jay,

Thank you for using our products. Releasing the Dexter or Lemur as software applications would indeed be a possible path to follow for JazzMutant, but this isn’t on the agenda right now as we’re still selling hardware.

Best regards,

Hugues

What about Beatmaker? It's a superb touch step sequencer for making beats and it's already available for iPad. I love the way you can quickly go into different step resolutions and the way you can make any selection loop by dragging on the loop selector.
