Since when does Live NOT recover your work??

Post by nowtime » Fri Apr 02, 2010 3:24 am

OUCH!

that's a first: 8.1.1, doing a bunch of warping, copying, looping, renaming.

Crash! and then "Serious System error" or whatever.

"would you like Live to recover your work?"

"yes"

I just lost an hour of intensive editing. Pissed.

I can't say I recall this ever happening before, except with the "Live has run out of memory" which was a Looper problem.

Am I the only one who has lost work even when Live has asked "do you want to recover your work"? This is a new behaviour on my system.

you went an hour before saving?

that won't happen again. ;)

if Live crashes on me and I ask it to recover my work, it just crashes again and I have to restart.
if it's the computer's fault then crash recovery works fine.

Yes that was my huge complaint on 8.1.1 which is why I'm still astounded no official versions (versus beta) of Live have been released since the end of December. That is say, Live would crash and then it would ask me if I wanted to recover my work upon reopening. If I answered "yes" Live would cause my whole computer to crash causing me to have to restart the computer and in some instances requiring me to reformat my hard drive. But if I answered "no" Live would work fine only I would lose my work. Doesn't make for a very pleasant work environment either way if you ask me.

Yes. Seriously. It was doing some really weird stuff to my registry. So obviously I'm running a PC but that seems moot to me since in the past I've had Live and numerous other music production apps running as smooth as could be.

I've used Live since version 3 and have never remotely had a problem like that. this one laptop has had Live 5 though 8.1 on it including all the betas and the drive has never been reformatted.

gotta ask the dirty question, are you a crack user?

they crack & distribute betas now ?

anyway, I've had a live (7) beta screw me before so ya, I empathise with longjohnmike. It's possible. It put me off Live betas 100%. Now I wouldn't dream of installing a live beta before a complete HD clone

What's weird is I am 99.9% sure I saved multiple times in that hour.

It's my M.O. to save every 10-30 min. And when I'm paranoid I save after every few edits.

cool, that didn't sound like you. ;)

I think Sparklepuff posted about a similar problem. late night session, Live wasn't saving. it turned out he accidentally saved to an external drive rather than where he expected it to save. search your drives for content made last night.

hth, good luck!

was messing with Alloy on Saturday night, and Live crashed. When I opened Live again it told me Live had quit unexpectedly and asked me to recover from undo history, and I said yes. It started to open, then crashed again and told me there was some major bad error. I open Live again, said yes to recover, and this time it opened but not anywhere near where my undo history was =/

Alas. Usually Live recovers from undo history very well, but then again it hasn't crashed on me due to a plugin in months.
I don't 'produce.' I write music.

what is it so problematic to download the 8.1.3rc, install and try it out.

You just copy a project you like and there you go.
It can't hurt to try a beta, maybe it would help you
