Help with SL MKII & Live

Post by Dom Murphy » Mon Apr 05, 2010 11:40 am

Hey all

I just recently purchased the Novation SL MKII and have it set up for Live as per the instructions. Everything seems to be ok except for the endless rotary encoders.

The problem is when I run a VST / AU instrument all other encoders seem to be recognised except the endless ones. When I touch them their parameters highlight on the MKII's screen but on turning nothing happens.

If I turn off Automap the encoders work fine in Live (controlling whatever parameter they're meant to)... so the issue seems to be the Automap.

Anyone else have this problem? I really want to like this controller but it's letting me down a few too many times (eg: drum pads create really long note hits).

Cheers if anyone can help.

Dom

Heya

After a bit of tinkering I got the dials to work. Which is great!

But I'm still stumped with the drumpads - If I hit them (using a Drum Rack patch) the note that plays (and records) is much longer than it should be. I've let my finger release the pad but the notes is still getting recorded. So rather than a single short hit I have a single long hit.

This happens with any Drum Rack or Live Instrument... the pads aren't great but would still be handy if I could use them.

Anyone with an SL MKII with this problem?

Cheers

Dom

hi

yes, i think it's the setting. in EDIT mode u can check the drumpad setting: in the second page (i think) u can set the milliseconds of signal (auto-off or off sync) i think the default is setted with auto-off NONE. so infinite sound.

i hope it help u

The thing that really bums me out about this controller is that you have to click on the Ableton synth or effect with the mouse before controlling it. To me this defeats the purpose of the controller. You should be able to totally move around Live without touching the mouse.

there's a feature in automap pro 3.4 that allows u to set a botton or encoder in the controller as any pc/mac keyboard key.
so the arrows as well.

you could always map the 8 drumpads to the device/rack header in live 8(make sure you're not in automap mode, but live's advanced template).this way you can switch instantly between racks/devices on different channels.worked for me.

However Manumanu,
You have to have the automap button engaged to assign keyboard strokes. And when Automap is engaged the controller is controlling the plug in and not live. So, the idea of keyboard strokes doesn't really work well because you have to click automap anytime you want to use this feature. Or am I missing something? I just tried it and it only works when Automap is engaged.

using the 8 drum pads is a good idea. I'll try that.

Thanks!

So you have to SET the length of the notes that the drumpads trigger ?
