Request for Ableton iPad app

Post by The Landwhale » Sat Apr 03, 2010 7:40 pm

Let me start by saying that Ableton Live is incredible.
Also, I hope you all do not get too discouraged by some of these whiny jackasses who go over the top with their senseless bitching. People like that have NO clue what it actually takes to build what you have created and continue to create.

I appreciate the massive effort that you all have put into stabilizing Live 8, even though I personally have not had that many major issues with 8, just little crap here and there that seems to be fixed with the 8.1.3rc.

I know you've pledged to not work on anything else until 8 is stable, and I really respect that decision.
With that said, I'd like to make a request.

Please. PLEASE make either:
A) a version of Live that can run on the iPad, maybe some sort of light version, no 3rd party plugs or anything, that could export sessions that could be opened up in the full version of Live 8. PLEASE??!!!
or
B) Ableton remote control app, ala APC40 but crazier

I'm sure you all probablyhave something in the works already, but I just think a native version of ableton on computers like this seems like a very natural match.

Thanks in advance. :)

Why not just make Ableton more touch friendly and run it on a multi-touch enabled computer? The Dell Studio 17 Touch is a prime example, a big high res multi-touch screen with lots of computing horsepower under the hood.

Ultimately, that's what makes the most sense, and I'm sure that's where Live is headed.
However, these things take time to do right, and in the meantime if they released a powerful controller app
for the iPad, we'd be 1 step away from the dream.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with iPhone controller apps, but your experience seems quite opposite of mine.
I've used several but prefer Touch OSC for both devices. (iPhone and iPad)
Just today while rehearsing I had touch osc running on the iPad for 4 hours without a single glitch.
Been doing the same thing with the phone for over a year now, with only a handful of stuck midi notes here and there.

But Live's GUI could be streamed to iPad even with current resources while Live is running on a powerful computer. This way you'd get the same GUI, full functionality and desktop/laptop processing power on iPad. I'm hoping this app could do it when it's released: http://wormholeremote.com/ ... or maybe some normal VNC-client?

True, but the vnc route is a bit sluggish. Doing it this way is usable, even from the iPhone, but the latency and frame refresh frates gets old quick.
