Which USB powered soundcard to DJ (&pre listen) with Live??

Post by Jip » Wed Apr 06, 2005 9:49 pm

Hi guys - new to Ableton - want to start using it to DJ !

I currently have a Tascam US-122 which is a great little USB powered device - however I have just found out that I can't route the "pre-listen" function to the headphone output (is this right??)

Does anyone have any suggestions of a soundcard that does this ??

It would also be extremely nice not to have to cart an extra adapter around and keep the setup as mobile as possible - so USB powreed is highly desired.

My laptop does have firewire but it is 4-pin rather than 6-pin so again I don't think it will power a soundcard (correct?)

Any help on this is extremly appreciated - looking through the forum there are some very nice people out there making this music creating community a nicer place for us newbies - and far less daunting !

Thanks
Jip

hey,

welcome to the forums Jip,

I use the terratec phase 26 USB
it has three outs and a phono pre amp

i use the three outs for three tracks in Live

sortah like having three turntables, and i pre listen on the DJ mixer.

u could do more with it but i like to keep it simple

hope this helps

forget the USB. PCMCIA echo indigo DJ is cool and you don't end up with an extra box that you can't find a place for and ends up covered in beer.

cheers - thanks for the fast info guys - always happy to hear other suggestions though if anyone has any!

This forum rocks man - I've never known such helpful people - keep it up !!

So do people think I'll get an acceptable level of sound having the complete house mix going through one output ?

I imagine some people may route to two outputs and use their own mixers crossfade rather than Abletons ?

PS I'm going to be using an evolution UC-33e - anyone use this for a crossfade?

I would vote for the Indigo DJ too if portability is a concern. Check my signature, join our group dedicated to DJing with Live!

I had a slight level problem at one place where I was going straight into a sound system, but as long as your one output is going into a mixer or direct box you'll be fine.

the m-audio sonica theatre ain't that bad really
$100. 24/96 capabilities, and buspowered usb. great for sending 1 stereo out to the house, and using 1 stereo out for cueing in headphones.
