Does 8.1.3RC have extra debugging routines in it?

Post by koranek » Tue Apr 06, 2010 5:39 pm

It's always seemed like the performance of beta versions was not as good as the final released version. I've (and several others) have attributed this to extra debugging routines compiled into the betas that were removed for the release.

If so, does 8.1.3RC also have extra debugging stuff in it that will be removed from the actual release?

Yes it does. It records your every move. Not as video, but as an events log.
If Live crashes and you send your crash pack to Ableton, they can play back that session from start to crash. So they know what you did and even got crash logs to see what went wrong.

This raises the question of whether this reporting stuff will be removed when the version is actually released. Does the RC version give accurate size and speed information about the actual final released version?

Someone reported like 5-10% more CPU usage, others like 2-3% more CPU usage comparing the 8.1.1 and 8.1.3.
So you may have a bit more consumption with this RC compared to the real release (which hopefully comes soooooon) :D

Also the reporting stuff will be removed with the actual release, so the real CPU consumption shouldn´t be bigger than with 8.1.1.
