hahaha. What would Henke do? I'll start asking myself that. It's going to be hard to live that close to Henke code, but it seems worthwhile.

The only trouble is that sometimes the answer is going to be: Henke would travel to (insert exotic city) and give an improbable lecture during the afternoon and play a set at 4AM to a packed house of 500 of devoted fans.

The room has probably got crap acoustics, the equipment looks unimpressive, and their performances lack polish (probably by design), but these guys are sure on to something! Totally fresh sounds. Best part of it all, they look like they're having FUN!

I disagree that kids having fun = great inspirational music as a GENERALIZATION.

Most kids are running cracked software, doing nothing more original than ripping off everyone else and using Fruity Loops presets, not having a clue how to mix, so everything is awash in cludgy mud and clipping/bad distortion, and not every gearhead is some lame brain math geek with no soul or inspiration for creating excellent music.

All stereotypes and generalizations. There are SOME kids doing some great, fresh stuff in spite of not having top gear, but I wouldn't say this was the majority given all the music I hear uploaded on various music sites.

Henke has a point that you don't need a ton of gear to make great music, but having lots of gear doesn't mean you make bad music by the same token.

I do think that having a ton of gear (including softsynths and FX) means you make a lot less music. At least that's been my experience.

Mr Henke co-created Ableton and probably has tons of gear. I doubt he thinks his own music is lousy, so it's unlikely that he meant to say: lots of gear and music knowledge = lousy music.

Let me rephrase my previous post:

It's unlikely that Mr Henke meant to say: "lots of music knowledge and lots of gear will necessarily result in the creation of lousy music". Why? Because he's got both and I doubt he thinks his own music is lousy.
