still can't find a slicer that satisfy me

Post by cyberbeats » Thu Apr 08, 2010 9:39 am

Hi, I'm very happy with the bundle live 8 & max4live, there is some interesting stuff growing, but one thing i still miss is a nice slicer.
What i would need is a patch that slices the audio clip and then let me play each slice with my hardware step sequencer
(each slice is assigned to a note).
I know there's already the slice to midi function but what i need is something different and i only found
a monome patch called live clip chopper here: http://post.monome.org/comments.php?Dis ... 379&page=1 but it only works with monome and doesn't trigger chops of audio from midi notes.
In the past i used liveslice on pc but now i'm on mac and there's only phatmatik pro, that i don't like it...so i hoped for a max4live patch that would do the same...any suggests? Thanks

Hi cyberbeats.

It would be quite easy to get Live Clip Chopper to deal with Midi Notes instead of OSC messages from the monome. All the functionality you want is already there, so it really wouldn't be too hard to implement.

I've actually been working on similar functionality so I can have a single loop sliceable on my akai lpd8 drum pads. Soon as I've finished a work project and I get some time to work on this I'll be posting a revision up which can take in midi data as well.

Also if it was you who contacted me by email sorry for the delay in reply :).

Hi Myralfur,
nice to meet you here!
Yes it was me that sent you a message...
I'm glad to know that this function is not too difficult to implement...wish i had the knowledge to do it by myself!
Thanks in advance for the help and hope to see soon the patch i always wished ;)

You might find you can get something going with the LoopShifter instrument as well.

All of those things that "kind of" do what you want have an edit button, so you should feel free to slice, dice, chop, and channel everyone else's patch until you get what you want. That's the whole point of Max for Live, after all.

And yeah - you really *should* have a look at the chucker~ object (it's the heart of the Buffer Shuffler). I love it.
