snap midi macro to values?

Post by solconnection » Thu Apr 08, 2010 5:28 pm

Hi, i was hoping someone might have a good idea on how i can overcome a problem run in to a few times.

when you midi map a macro knob, you can set the min and max values that the knobs range should operate within. This is great, but i would somehow like to go further and set up a list of values that the knob responds to and ignore anything that isn't in this list of values.

Ie. I have a drum machine with a kickdrum, i have a knob set to the kick drums pitch...it sounds great when i map it to a knob and twiddle it around but because i cant constrain the knob to just respond to certain values i get lots of out of key notes. I would love to be able to carelessly twist the knob and know that it is going to land on a pitch in harmony with my track.

any ideas on how to achieve something like this? maybe using m4l? or some other clever work around

thanks in advance

m4L yes, there are objects like [route] that only pass along values that match its arguments.

without m4L, I don't think you can.

cheers, i think i would be capable of making a max patch for this, was just hoping there might be a quick way to do it within ableton itself.

thanks a lot
