What external sound card do you use?

Post by Dj Spuratic » Thu Apr 08, 2010 5:36 pm

Im using a digidesign M-Box mini2 with ableton and have really like it thus far. My only complaint is that i cant seem to find the firmware updates for this thing. Im not even sure if i am out of date with it or not..lol. I bought Protools about 2 years ago and have done nothing with it since then, so im sure im over due for an update? The latency was a little tough to figure out, but now i can set my Track delay to 57.9 and record anything from Vocals to my turntables directly into ableton and it works perfectly once i reset it back to 0.00 after im done recording.

Just wanted to know what other people are using and what the pros/cons are of their particular experience/setup. Ive been looking to buy a new card with more outputs/inputs so i don't have to keep switching wires around when i want to record various things. if you have any recommendations as to a better lower latency unit with at least 2 L/R inputs let me know.

I use the TC Desktop Konnekt 6. Costs less than $150 and IT ROCKS! I downgraded to this from an RME Multiface 2!! I needed the multiface because I used to have several keyboards and synths. After months of sampling those synths and converting into Kontakt Format, I didn't need so many outputs (just two for guitar, vocals, other keyboard). Since most of my sounds are now internal, the Konnekt 6 does an excellent job of recording any input as well as projecting to my speakers.

ONE THING: If you're using XP, consider getting something else because it doesn't seem to work with it (at least on my bootcamp partition) But Windows 7 and OSX work well with it both in 32 and 64bit! I pay attention to detail, and I'm telling that Konnekt 6 is a beast in a box.
