Breaks in Samples
Breaks in Samples
I'm trying to beat-match some of my MP3's in Live, but no matter how anal I am about warping, some of the tracks continue to get out of sync. At each moment they would phase out, I noticed that the entire sample would drop to 0 for very brief periods and then continue. My question is why is this happening, and what can I do about it?
Re: Breaks in Samples
Hi!
Tried to use the "Phase" device under "Utility"?
If things get messy regarding warping, I tend to delete all the markers (except the 1.1.1), turn off the metronome and play the track while I count the bars (boring, but true) and at the last bar of the song I place a marker and drag it to it´s corresponding place in the time line.
If the tune has an "elastic beat" (shifting tempo) I now find it easier to warp.
I hope this was helpful.
Keep it up!

Re: Breaks in Samples
Thanks for the quick reply, jonasbj. I'd definitely like to check the Phase device, but it still doesn't answer my question of why the samples get cut off for brief periods to begin with. It's just not Ableton-like to me. I've had problems before of Live not fully analyzing some of my MP3's, and people have told me it could be that Live has issues dealing with compressed formats. Why are these tiny blank spaces occurring in my samples? I want to know so I can stop this from inconveniencing me...jonasbj wrote:Hi!

Have you tried to play it back using for example iTunes/vlc?
If that goes without problems, maybe you could try to route that playback into Live (using Soundflower or Audiojack) and do a new real-time recording of the tune?
Or you could try to convert the audio file to a new format?
I hope you find this useful!
