Clip relative selection zone

I am trying to trigger individual clips with a drum pad (akai mpd24). right now, using relative scene selection, I am able to navigate through the scenes and trigger individual clips along the one scene selected. The problem is I can only launch clips that are along the one horizontal scene, there fore only one pad can be assigned to one track - I want to be able to assign more pads to trigger clips with in that track, but I dont want to assign the pads to the individual tracks themselves. I would like the pads to trigger clips with in a kind of selection zone that I can navigate through all my scenes in live. Basically the same thing I'm doing with one scene, except I would be able to use my pads to trigger clips from a block of scenes with out having to scroll up and down every time I want to trigger something. This way I could jam on a block of clips in different tracks, then scroll on to another block. Maybe this is a no brainer but I just cant seem to crack the nut.
Any help would be great!

the Launch Pad and APC work like that but AFAIK other controllers can't do that.
