transmit midi signal from live to midi controller

Post by manumanu » Tue Apr 06, 2010 10:12 am

Hi,

I've live8 on a macbookpro. i controll it with many midi device. one of this the novation remote sl 25 compact.
do u know if is possible to send from live the status of a plug in (or whatever) to the midi controller?
i mean: the remote 25sl works pretty fine. i mapped my template with live and when, for exemple, i press the bottom 1 the track 1 turn in mute. the display of the remote say "OFF" and the botton led get red. but what i want is the other way round: to press by mouse the mute botton in live and to see the remote sl botton light up, and the display saying "OFF". is it possible?
because i have several templates, and in each one i like to have 8 botton with the same function (for exemple the mute of 8 track), but when i skip from one template to the other i need remote sl remember the status of live (mute ON/OFF, for exemple).
because in the exemple "mute ON/OFF" is quite simple, it's enought to wath the monitor...but to control the status of knobs and plugins on/off skipping from one template to the other is a mess.

thanks!

Sorry,

maybe i was not clear enought.
The topic is this:

i don't know if when i change an already midi-mapped value in Live, this will be "seen" by the midi-controller.
Someone knows it? I don't even know how to call this behavior, so i don't know where to find an answer.

Thanks!

I don't know your particular controller as I've never used it myself, but Live does have a "Remote SL" and a "Remote SL Classic" in the Control Surface options under MIDI preferences. Maybe you need to set one of these?

If you have your controller set up as a control surface in this menu, it should receive information about mapped values.

I know this works for default values for control surfaces, I don't know if this works for user MIDI mappings, which is what I think you're trying to do. I don't have a control surface in front of me to test with.

Sorry this isn't more helpful.

Yo!

This function is called talkback and not all controllers support it (usually cheap ones does not).

If you find your controller under Control Surfaces in the MIDI/sync tab under Preferences and it supports talkback, you are good to go when you select it from the drop-down menu.

If it supports talkback, but you don´t find it under Control Surfaces you can try to google it, and maybe, if you are lucky, some one has programmed a Control Surface preset for your controller which you can slip into one of Live´s magic folders and it will appear under Control Surfaces.

Keep up abletoning!
