Ableton PLEASE take my money... or not

Post by telepathy51 » Sat Apr 10, 2010 10:18 pm

Hey, I just got myself a new iMac and used my second Live 7 license and everything. How cool? It was so awesome I decided to upgrade to Live 8 Suite. I was pretty damn excited until Ableton rejected my debit card even though I have plenty of money in the bank. I tried to run it several more times with no luck, I sent a message to customer support and got no reply yet. Finally today I called the bank and they said it should have went through fine. Very very frustrating. So now I am to the point where I think I might just order Native Instruments Komplete and forget about the upgrade.
Any of you had any luck ordering off Abletons site? I ordered my mac last week with no problems and it was 4 times the price of this upgrade.

Should I just get Komplete? It looks pretty damn cool.
Sorry for the rant, just fucking frustrated!

Ableton's credit-card processing is in Germany, even when you're buying in US dollars. So you might want to contact your bank and tell them that you intend to ask for an overseas transaction.

YO,

Same thing happened to me, I switched over to a credit card and it worked perfectly. The debit card I had also had plenty of money in the account but it didn't process after several attempts.

FYI, I also considered Komplete and I'm 110% happier with Live 8. Instruments in Komplete ALWAYS killed my processor like no other. I also haven't had any issues with Live 8 running on my Macbook Pro.

my bank told me it was all good. If they don't let me order by phone on Monday, I'll probably get Komplete. I really want an upgrade NOW!

BEFORE just shelling out for this stuff, you should download the demos.

Live 8 has been quite unstable for a larger than usual % of users, hence the 'quality' statement by CEO Gerhard Behles apologizing for these issues and promising to work harder to address these issues.

Native Instruments - I mostly find no problem in Cubase 5 and Live 7 with their stuff although some patches in Kore or Massive can be quite CPU intensive (although Massive has an 'economy' mode which helps a lot).

I beta tested 8 after buying 6 and upgrading to 7 and didn't upgrade because I felt L8 was not ready for release at the time, now I will probably wait for Live 9 as L7 is serving me just fine.

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I make quite a few purchases online but still had a hiccup with the upgrade to Live 8. I had to call my bank three times to get it to work. The first two times they assured me the problem was fixed. The third time I requested they stay on the phone till the transaction went through. I'm not sure what flagged this particular purchase but I had purchased ACE recently with no problems.

Good Luck...

My vote is for Komplete. Love Ableton love Live, but Komplete and Live 7 VS Live 8 Suite = a less buggy combination.
I'm going off the fact that Live 7 and Komplete 5 have been dead stable for me VS all the people who have issues with Live 8 at the moment.
Also Komplete is a much bigger collection of virtual instruments with a much wider sonic pallet than Suite. There isn't any doubt about that. Half the instruments in Suite are basically cut down versions of AAS instruments.

Get Live 8 upgrade when you can though, Ableton are a fine company and Live 8 will eventually be dead stable I believe, as they are seriously devoting resources to that cause as we speak!

Find it interesting that so many people vote NI for stability reason. It's usually a case of minutes to find a bug in NI stuff, and NI plugins are pretty much the only ones I own that repeatedly and consistently manage to crash Live.
Live + M4L, MacBookPro & Ultralite mk3. Plugins from Softube, Soundtoys, Eventide, 2CAudio, Cytomic, AudioDamage, OhmForce, FabFilter, SonicCharge, Waves, MadronaLabs, NI and ExpertSleepers. Oh, and a bunch of hardware... =D

I've already own Guitar Rig 3 and I really like it. It has never crashed Live for me. Since I originally posted this I have heard a lot of good things about Komplete and too many problems with Live 8. On top of that Ableton finally responded and said they don't accept debit... thats funny it says Visa and I buy everything else with it. I'm not getting into the credit card game again for an upgrade. I guess the choice is clear. Thanks for all your advice.

even when i learned to hate L8 i voted for it.. the komplete is defently more bang for the bug..
so i would go for that..

onthe other side the hadling changes a lot in 8.. in a way i still prefer the warl marker setting in L7...
its actualy in itself more fluent..

But... thee are so many advantages in the new more complicated way of doing it...
ne of the main.. much better sound quality in warping beats..

however.. you might get complete and just update to L8.. as soon its stable... or wait for 9...

Simple, NI used to have problems a couple years ago, but in Komplete 5 here's my experience:

Guitar Rig3- never any issues.
Absynth4- No issues ever.
FM8- solid.
Kontakt- a rare crash, but none for months.
Reactor- a rare crash, but none for months.
Battery 2 had some issues in Live, 3 is solid.
Massive- No issues
B4- No issues
Akoustik Piano- issues with dropouts in Live, NI suggest to use the samples in Kontakt 3.5, and they work great.
Never used Elektric Piano enough to commnet.

So yeah, very minor issues, nothing like what people are reporting with Live 8, and IMO again, love Ableton, not impressed with Suite considering the power of offerings
like Komplete.
