can u 'copy & paste' warp markers from 1 trk to another?

Post by datalyst studio » Fri Apr 08, 2005 8:13 pm

i want to copy ALL of my warp markers from one clip (track) to another...how?

this is important because i recorded live drums, am doing drum 'edits' with the warp tool and want to make sure the drums warp 'together'...so the mic'd top snare is in the exact relative sync as the mic'd bottom snare and so on...i don't want to submix to a stereo drum mix...i want the flexibilty to change a drum level at my leisure so pleze understand why i would rather not submix the whole kit and only warp that...

i read the manual when i first bought ableton, i have referenced it for this task and can't find the answer...
:?

i think it is possible if the files are the exact same length
that you could warp the first one
make a copy of the asd and rename it as if it was the asd of the second one...
it might work, give it a shot!

chalupa...thanks for the reply...your idea was actually close but in the end...i found the answer in the manual after all...it was a little bit of a "choose your own adventure" (ok...that's a reference to my youth and should give a clue as to my age...anyone remember those books?)...in chaptor 10 at the end of section 10.2 there is a 'Note: for a tip on how to apply the same set of warp markers to several multitrack samples, please see here (page 72)'..i turned from page 79 back to page 72...and...drum roll please...: just copy the track with all the warp markers to an unused track then hit 'Repl' on that new track and browse to open the asd/track that requires the same warp markers. the intended asd is imported in the old clips place but with all the warp markers of the previous..

Still, this doesn't work with e.g. eight channels of a live drummer recorded on audiotracks.

It would be nice if you could set the markers on one track and 'apply' those markers to the seven other tracks ...

saving seven channels and copy paste replacing the lot would be a bit to much work ...

You can do this. You have to copy the first warped region to the second track (control drag, I use Windows).
Go to the copied region and click on the replace sample button and navigate to the second drum track wave file. Live will replace the wave in both regions.
Next, undo the file replacement.
Next REDO the file replacement.
Now, the 1st region will have the new drum sample (cuz of the first replace sample action) and the second region will have the original sample (cuz of the undo). You will want to rename the 1st region so you don't get confused.
All warp markers will be in both regions. You can check the sample / wave file in the properties to make sure each region has the correct file replaced.
Now repeat the procedure for the next drum track.
The only issue I see is the disk overload comes up if I have more than 8 drum tracks. You may have to load some tracks into RAM.
Live doesn't seem to like large multitrack files, which is a bummer. I can play 50+ tracks in Cubase SX, with minimal disk activity, but I can't do more than 8-10 in Live.
Hope this helps.
