Akai MPK 61 vs M-Audio Axiom 61
Akai MPK 61 vs M-Audio Axiom 61
2 similar keyboards, The M-Audio is about A$100 cheaper.
I do not need the pads and I am not phased about the faders as I have a Padkontrol and Remote Zero.
What I am really interested in is the keys, how they feel and build quality.
I am keen to here any opinions on what you believe is a better keyboard and why you believe this.

I think it really comes down to personal preference here - I really like the Axiom key feel, preferred it over the Akai and Novation I tried. Don't think there's a right or wrong answer, just... you have to try them out yourself before buying.

+1 I think it's safe to say you'll like the axiom pads better tho. I also prefer the axiom keys.
Ableton 9, Feeltune Rhizome, Focusrite Pro, Mpk249....

Akai
better keys, knobs, sliders
axiom
better pads, hypercontrol is solid for ableton, ok for reason,
novation
not sure if they send me one I'll let ya know
korg's
are also badass
There are just keyboards as well, don't know name brands
you can get badass midi fully weighted keys without knobs and pads for something like $500

In a K induced Haze (the old K kind not the special K kind ), but an Asian spizz can sometimes bring me out! If ya don't get it, ya never will.

I think at that level it's just personal preference. I personally like the Akai keys more than any other manufacturers at that price range.

Thanks for all the replys.
I ask for your opinions as there does not seem to be 1 place in Perth that has the Axiom's in stock (they all seem to have a very poor opinion of m-audio/Avid and their supplier here...), therefore I cannot try them out. The above comments have encouraged me to wait and try it out...
Cheers

Can't speak for the Axiom, but I am more than pleased with my MPK61.
Nicely weighted keys and great build quality, its all the keyboard controller i will ever need.
I have heard people comment on the pads not being Akai's usual high standard, but they are fine for my needs.

oh yeah forgot to mention that if your on win 7 64 bit system m-audio does not have even public beta drivers for the axiom pro yet. Many people have "disowned" m-audio and avid because they have taken WAY to long to issue drivers for their products.
If your on windows 7 I'd keep checking the m-audio website but it will still be a while till their up and running.

I have an axiom, which I bought after much research. I concluded that the akai just looks better
