I want to see if Live can be used as a replacement for my live looping pedal (using a laptop and a midi controller). However, I can't get the demo version to record. I've followed the manual, but can't seem to arm a track.
Any thoughts?

hi there twynog,
Make sure you have an audio input specified(above the track fader), and also a audio interface in the preferences setup.
Live is limited by the following problems, IMHO
1) An 'arm' then 'record' phillososphy
2) monitoring dropping out after triggering a clip, unless monitoring is through a separate dedicated track or external hardware
3) Inability to overdub clips/ or record new clips which are a mix of the old and new
4) The inability to delete clips via midi
I proposed an idea of a new setup here called the 'resample' track

It would overcome a lot of the above problems.
Having said that, Live is excellent software. and it offers a replacement for Hardware loopers which is FAR more flexible, and musically structured.
cheers,
songcarver

Thanks very much for this.
I like "songcarver" - very much what we do.
There is no area on my demo copy above the track faders where the audio imput should be, so I guess I can't record in the demo.
However, from what you say, and your ingenious patch (or whatever it is) it looks as if I will be able to use live.. er..live.
However, I need the controller first - then a laptop, so I need to save a few quids.
My email is [email protected] and I would be very glad if we could keep in contact. I've discovered that live looping is very much a minority interest - especially as I play sax rather than guitar.

Re: live looping
There's a menu option that turns the audio input selection area on & off, so make sure that's on.twynog wrote:There is no area on my demo copy above the track faders where the audio imput should be, so I guess I can't record in the demo.
