virus polar and ableton 8...not pretty tight together...

Post by dj mush » Tue Apr 13, 2010 1:44 pm

i recently purchased a polar ti, a nice synth i must say.
the only very annoying problem i'm encoutering now is that midi syncing the polar with ableton is hell.
running an arp on the polar and playing a beat on ableton, seems like the arp is played by a drunk dude who cant keep tempo.

i don't use the virus control plug, only pure midi, from ableton to my soundcard(motu) and then to the virus and back.
trying to adjust latency in the prefs helps a little bit, but it doesnt start nice together.
also a 4/4 beat and a note from the virus doesn't seem to play tight together.
after such a purchase i really would like to see this work together of course.

does somebody encountered the same issues? and are there some tips to
solve this?

thank you.

I recomend you to use the plug its nice and you can do automation as you do it in live with all the parameters in the polar.

Enjoy the virus

yeah,

i know about the plug, but the problem with it is that if i use it as plug (so via usb)
then the classic midi function doensn't work, and so i can't use my virus anymore to control my other synths...

I use my Polar TI2 with straight midi too, works fine. Are you using the latest OS for the Polar?

yeah, latest software...
i updated two days ago via the virus acces website.
when i add a lot of latency compensation it works, but i have to add silence before my tracks in arrangment in order to give ableton/virus some time to catch up with each other.
but still, its not really tight...

someone told me it could have something to do with the 'live' button on the polar, but i don't find such a button...neither in the manual..

The 'live' button is on the plug in, lower left corner. Needing to add a measure of silence to get things tight it not that uncommon, I've had to do that with other DAWs too.

The drunken arp is a common problem. Some people have it, some don't :| Strange. I've had it in every OS version between 3 and 4. I just hit Space to 'Start/Stop' and if you're lucky, it magically plays alright.
