for me it's a nightmare since 8.0 one issue goes another one comes.

it's far, far away being stable enough for the stage.

For now I'll stick to 8.09. Have to confess I didn(t even try 8.1 to 8.13 versions though. To me, apart from crashes when dragging midi clips from stylus while playing, what I don't do anymore, this version is stable for my use.

I really wish I'd had the foresight to not just jump in to the new version of Live that came out with max for Live. As it is now I'd have to put all the work I've done since then on hold until things get smoothed over with the newer veriosn of Live 8. But then again I guess I could go back to an older, more stable version of Live and just start off in a whole new direction with all new stuff. Hhhmm?

For this only reason, I'm holding back from buying MAX/MSP since I had a 6 days workshop at the end of february in IRCAM, in Paris. I would be too frustrated not to be able to use MFL once I'll get it. Hope all this will be sorted out by the end of this month.

for me it works, worked for a 2h set in front of a 2000people crowd.. i'm like tarekish, i play with betas in front of people :)

but non-the-less, those that still have issues should be the one to focus, obviously. i hope their issues get fixed before the release, obviously.

for me, i don't need an "official release", the beta works fine enough :)

I've gotta say these poll results are leaving me rather surprised. I figured the majority of people were up and running smoothly but it looks to be the opposite.

But really from what I've been reading on the forum here a large contention lies with Live being used on stage in a live music scenarios and the risks associated with doing so. I think this really hits on two different schools of though. 1. being that it is too risky to use any DAW system on stage due to inherent code instabilities and 2. being that DAW's, especially Live, represent the future of live perfomances due to their flexibility and control over the music.

Every time a new beta release comes out, the forums are flooding with bugreports and unsatisfied users. However, I've never had such a problem. Almost all beta's and surely every release worked fine and transition is always smooth. If I ever had an instable system, I could -nearly- always bring it down to a buggy VST plugin or other crappy audio/video software. If that didn't work, Ableton was always there to help me sort out the problem. I'm sorry, it's never Ableton Live that causes problems in my case. And a lot of other users think so too, i'm afraid. Just look at the number of complaints versus the total number of users... and a staggering 36 poll results at this moment. I know, it's lots of users, and lots of different systems and working methods. Bugs will always be there. But Ableton already acknowledged that there were a bit too much, and is working hard to get the quality up. I'm sure this update will make a lot of users happier, so go 8.1.3!

a poll on the forum is no way to judge stability. most users don't even know there's a forum.
1. being that it is too risky to use any DAW system on stage due to inherent code instabilities
Live 7 is apparently much more stable than Live 8 and many many many parties have been thrown using Live for many many years. it's not ANY DAW, it's 8.1.
and 2. being that DAW's, especially Live, represent the future of live perfomances due to their flexibility and control over the music.
Live touts itself as a Live performance tool. the other DAWs do not.

thats not the point..most forum usres are fanboys..so the picture drawn here was tellingf about absolutly no problems up to late 2009...

I still cant belife that all the stuff wasnt discovered in the inital betatesting.. that draws an extremly bad picture about the people that participated in the public betatesting.. or about public betatesting instead of hired professionals...

beside that a bit one eye blind userbase the forum is pretty good to see potential dangers and problems.. or the actual state of L8.. without the forum one might think the problems are solved allready..

there is progress.. seems to dont crash anymore.. but stil lots of issues... will probably need a third beta of the release candidate...

3phase, it's becoming more and more apparent why you're having so many problems.

I think 3phase really hit on some pertinent points. I know that I never actively used the forum until I started having issues with the newer versions of Live 8. If anything the forum is simply a way to confirm that these issues are not all in my head. Now that I'm aware of the forum, maybe down the line I can use it to gauge the state of the software so the issues will be in other people's heads and not in mine.

But also I think the point about professional beta testers is very pertinent at this point in time. I mean really when a consumer goes to shell out a bunch of dough for a retail product it is usually assumed that the product is in proper working order. Otherwise the world would be one giant Craigslist. Maybe that would be a good thing, I don't know. But the point being is that us users are either busy using Live to create music or busy compiling bug reports and sending them in along with resetting a crashed machine. Its one or the other. People don't typically pay money to find and report other peoples' errors. In fact from my understanding that is normally the sort of thing people get paid to do in the first place.
