Post by funky shit » Wed Apr 14, 2010 1:19 pm

how do you all go about putting a wide effect on things.
at the minute im using the stereo pack from psp, its awesome if a lot of stuff.. but a bit bad on bass lines from some of my synths, leaves it feeling very digital :?

simple tips: put the bass in the middle, and if you want something wide, double it and pan them!

pan man is rocking my world at the moment :)
I slipped into a daze, whilst I was there I heard the most startling music, it was at once familiar and alien, reassuring and unsettling.

-create an audio effect rack with 2 chains
- 1 dry chain panned far left
- 1 chain with simple delay panned far right
- settings for the delay are - switch on link button, delay mode set to time, dry/wet at 0 -feedback 100%, ms delay to 1ms (adjust for different width)

Wide Bass Bad
Ableton’s engineers are hard
at work developing code that will allow our software to predict the future, but we don’t
anticipate having this available until at least the next major release.

Here is a moderately priced effect that makes stereo images seem wider than the speakers.

There's a subtle stereo widener in PSP Nitro that I've used for years. Works great in a mastering chain. The T-Racks compressor also has a widening function which is excellent.

Simple Delay -
With Feedback at 0%, wet at 100%
Time for Left @ 1ms
Time for Right @ 10ms
play with time settings to suit

Also found, on the right sounds, the Vinyl Distortion FX is handy.
But as meantioned making your bass wide isnt too advisable.
If you really want to do it, split it up into <100hz and >100hz. Keep the below 100hz clean, and mono preferably, and then process the above 100hz chain.
