Can this ReWire feature be done currently in Ableton?

Post by tekara » Thu Apr 15, 2010 7:50 am

Hi guys,

Was just wondering if there is any way I can automate Ableton's audio effects (like the filters) on a clip while it is being slaved to Cubase?

I don't need midi automation since most of that is handled in Cubase.

I've been a hardcore Cubase user for many years so it has been my linear sequencer of choice. I mainly use Ableton for its session view. I never bother with the arrangement view because I basically have Cubase to do all the arrangement. However, I find some of the audio effects in Ableton to be extremely useful (beat repeat, low pass filters, etc) and would like to incorporate that into my current setup. Now the main question is HOW?

Let's just say for example that I use VSTs in Cubase and I have several loops playing in sync in Ableton. I would like to create a low pass filter sweep on that specific clip in Ableton, but somehow be able to automate or record this sweep in Cubase in real time. As of now, the only option I am aware of is to shut Cubase down entirely, fire up Ableton, and record the filter sweep and bounce it back into Cubase.

I've checked the manual on several occasions but couldn't come to a conclusion that this was possible, nor did it mention in the "ReWire" section of the manual if this is possible.

Is there any way around this? Or am I stuck with the reality that I have to bounce audio back and forth?

I am open to all suggestions!

Cheers

There is no reason I could think of why you wouldn't be able to. I'm just wondering why you just don't try it and see. Just draw the envelope onto the clip in Live.
