New MacBook Pros Released today??
Re: New MacBook Pros Released today??
@ Tarekith,
how is the 'heat' behaviour compared to your old C2D 2.16ghz ???
does it get as hot, or even hotter or is it cooler?

Much, much cooler. I was watching some HD videos last night with it on my laptop, barely even got warm. Ditto running my live set, the last MBP would have the CPU fans ramped up and get warm fast, this one still stays quiet and cool running the same thing. Haven't had a chance to really stress it yet, none of my current projects come close anymore

Grab Handbrake and encode something, that'll test it well I believe.
Re: New MacBook Pros Released today??
Good call, use that app all the time so I can try it this afternoon. Sadly the old MBP has already been sold so I can compare directly in terms of converting time. Good test for heat though.

thanks man, sounds good, i think i am sold, only issue i personally have is the damn express card slot, only in the 17" now, looks like it will drive me to the big monster, a bit clunky for the road... a well...Tarekith wrote:Much, much cooler. Take a look at the dimensions, the 17 is really not much bigger than the unibody 15's.

Hey Tarekith, just out of curiosity, what do you get on the performance test when using the internal soundcard rather than your RME box?
Professional Shark Jumper.
Re: New MacBook Pros Released today??
Looks like 35%.
Interestingly (or maybe expectedly), MenuMeters is showing the CPU load distributed across all 4 virtual cores of the i7 too. This is good.

Re: New MacBook Pros Released today??
I'm curious if the issues your were having with the RME drivers persist in the new one.
Re: New MacBook Pros Released today??
Yes, exact same issues, in fact just was posting about that on the RME forum. Nothing that I would call a showstopper, but annoying at best. Honestly this is not at all what I was expecting when I bought an RME card, in hindsight I would have gone with a different card. No idea what that would be though.

Damn. I'm planning on buying a whole turnkey system. New MBP, new interface, and a new RAID drive in one shot. After literally years of thinking it over, I'm going with the Fireface UC. You gotta compromise somewhere. I love the RME sound. I think I could live with some less than perfect drivers for a spell.Tarekith wrote:...in hindsight I would have gone with a different card. Re: New MacBook Pros Released today??
B.) the top i5 or i7 are the chips to get and maybe only 5% apart. I think 8 gb ram is overkill for ableton since it's still a 32 bit app. I also think the HD screen is s good option for the money, 33% more screen space with maybe a bit more squinting? The bump up to a 7200 rpm 500 gb is probably worth it as well.sdmiddleton wrote:oh, The Dilemmas of buying a Mac Book Pro!nicogrubert wrote:this will be my configuration,too.Jersey Garcia wrote:woops... look what i just ordered:
15-inch MacBook Pro
Configuration
* 2.66GHz Intel Core i7
* 8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
* 500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
* MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen Display
Forgetting about price and not really caring about screen size, if you HAD to own one of these configurations JUST to run your live sets from (perhaps using reason as well), including Live Synths, Loops, Real-time vocal processing and using the APC40 with a view to go gigging with it - what system would you choose? A or B?
A, 13" MB PRO, 2.66 (dual), 8 GB RAM, 128SSD
or
B, 15" MB Pro, 2.66 (i7), 4 GB RAM, 500 gb 5400rpm
Would be interested to hear your answers...Cheers!
I'd get;
15" core i7
4 gb of Ram
500 gb 7200 rpm HD
HD display with antiglare

And it's on the way:-) Moving up in the world - Now if only they would add that E-SATA port....

I couldn't disagree more. You can never have too much RAM. Never.
