Problems with external MIDI clock

Post by Pitch Black » Sun Feb 02, 2003 5:30 am

Hi,

I have a problem trying to get Live to run happily as MIDI clock SLAVE on a Tibook.

PB G4 500
OS 9.1
Live 2.01
RME Hammerfall DSP and Multiface

Live is perfectly happy to run on internal sync. But when EXT sync is enabled (set to MIDI CLOCK in prefs.) firing off a clip DOESNT WORK on SOME clips only. I see the green arrow flash in "about to play" mode. But when the trigger point is reached the clip never plays. It just goes into waiting to fire mode. Wierd.

Yes, the audio files are there. THE WHOLE SONG plays *perfectly* on internal sync: ie clips fire by MIDI note and parameters move to controllers. I know the incoming MIDI clock is good (Logic and Reason chase fine) The unit generating the MIDI clock is another Hammerfall DSP & Multiface.

Live itself CHASES fine. But some clips refuse to fire. Can anyone duplicate this problem?

cheers

Paddy

Live 2.0.2 midi-sync still not ok

Post by FrankH » Mon Feb 17, 2003 12:02 pm

from Clips still play out of sync in new 2.02 update-bugfix-
FrankH wrote:...I did an other check, in my situation in Live 2.0.2 it is not the individual clips that drift appart, it is all clips against the songtempo. So it's all clips vs my MachineDrum that gets it's clock from Live...
FrankH wrote:...Crosschecked with Live 1.5.2 and no problem, everything stayes in sync...
Gerhard wrote:...First, we should rule out MIDI sync-related problems. A drift of Live's internal tempo with respect to an external tempo source in a MIDI sync scenario has nothing to do with clips drifting *within* Live. Should you find MIDI sync-related drifts, please use a separate thread to post your observation...
First of i'd like to say that i'm very happy with the fix of the clip-drifting-problem.

What still remains are the midi-sync-problems. In Live 1.5.2 everything stayes in sync. Since 2.0 this problem came up, in spite of the hard work of the Ableton-Team, Live 2.0.2 still has midi-sync problems, as sync-master or as sync-slave.

Peace,

Hi all,

There are three issues with midiclock :

1. When running as slave, Live will not trigger clips when the sampleoffset of the clips is not at position 0 ! We are working on this problem, so you can expect that its fixed in 2.0.3

2. Live as midiclock-master :
I just have seen that there is a new roundingproblem in the midimaster implementation of Live 2.0.2. This means that your slave will in every case drift off ! This happens !only! in Live 2.0.2 In Live 2.0.1 and below this will not happen. You can also expect that this will be again fixed in Live 2.0.3. Sorry for this. I should get a new brain somewhere.

3. Live as midiclock-slave :
All known general problems are fixed (except 1. above). If you still have problems with Live 2.0.2 as slave, drop me a mail and give me detailed information about your hardwareconfiguration. We will try to find a solution for your setup then.

I don't blame you:
  1. it's pretty complicating stuff you are doing,
  2. huge respect for working so hard on friday evening, no that's not the whole truth it was already saturday-moring in Berlin,
  3. Live is just so young,
  4. Live is what i was looking for for many years and will be my musical-instrument for many years to come
Peace,
f
