Manchester/Leeds, UK?

The Orbit in the 90s... unrivalled
Re: Manchester/Leeds, UK?
Leeds fell on its arse a few years back and turned into a shithole for stag and hen dos. The city centre is full of squealing girls with pink deely boppers and idiot rugby players.
The music scene, be it electronic/rock/alternative is dead in this city now even though it was thriving as little as 5 years back.

Hey, you criticize my town, I'll whup you upside the head !
Leeds is still an amazing city but the fact is that it is now a lot more gentrified than previously (city centre at least) and is now full of suits who like wine bars being the finance and call centre capital of the North.
Music always thrives in dirty, scummy dives, like the old Factory nightclub in Manchester built on the dog ugly and decrepit Hulme estate (before they bulldozed it) but had a vibe.
Parts of suburban Leeds (much of East Leeds such as Gipton/Seacroft/Halton Moor, some of South Leeds i.e. Holbeck, Beeston Hill etc.) are shitholes, but no more so than any other city in the UK.

And the way I see it you've got All Bar one and the like which are full of suits shouting, "SELL SELL SELL" and the main streets which are full of twatty stag and hen dos.
The underground clubs are closing down because this city has had the heart ripped out of it.

Sh*t I haven't been keeping an eye on this thread, I had no idea it had attracted so many posters. In answer to the question earlier: Yes please use this thread to organise meets if you like. It looks like I'm staying down south for the time being anyway. The GF has gone to Manchester after all so I'll be following her up there at some point.
It's interesting how the main theme here is club scene nostalgia. The same thing happened down here in Plymouth at around the same time. The city only ever had one really big "proper" club, Dance Academy. But that was hijacked by the city council a few years back because they are developing the area and want to turn it into something posh. It was always an absolute crap hole, but hosted some legendary (haha) Drum & Bass nights - Legends of the Dark Black being one of them. Even though it was a dive you knew you were in for a good night when Legends came around.
But, times have moved on. New technology, like the stuff we work on here, can create new vibes and drive new scenes.
