I hope once the dust settles on 1.5 that 2caudio will have the common courtesy to make the 1.0.1 bugfix 10.4 compatible.

Kool reverb, but how the hell do you go from supporting 10.4 with version 1.0, to dropping it with the very first bugfix ?

Kinda lame considering a large user base was built off the back of a group buy for version 1.0.0

The demo for the Lexicon PCM vst requires an i-lok, unfortunately.

Bugfix? The previous version was pretty stable. This was a fairly major upgrade with new features, hence "1.5". Also, 10.4 was never officially supported as far as I know.

Can only imagine the Lexicon plugs are ridiculous. I'd take Aether over convolution though, no modulation= static. Although Altiverb 7 is sposed to have modulation. One weird thing w/ convolution is that unless you're working with 100% dry samples (drum library/romplers r recorded in a room) ur stacking one room on top of another. EQ problems When you record vocals or guitar or shaker that's your room, plus a Sydney Opera House impulse. Those free Bricasti impulses do rule though. If I can isolate acoustic drums, or a drum plugin w/o the room mics, then a convo's quite nice. Most things i prefer a digital reverb, that way I can dial it in. Modulation is not esoteric. Just like w/ delay or synth, just a touch of modulation goes a long way- it's not for strange sounds it's bread and butter imo. Aether 1.5 is the shiz btw. They could have charged an upgrade for it, super cool.

Good points.

The main thing for me is, if the sound already has some type of modulation, even a very light ADT/Chorus type effect, going into a static Impulse, the end result is still not static and has some subtle and pleasing movement about it. IMHO, vocals should always have a really subtle mod effect (light chorus or small tape slap delay typically, but phase/flange can also be appropriate in some cases).

The natural room situation also applies to Aether and Lexicon and all reverb types, algorithmic or convolution. Usually it's not so much of an issue if the reverb you're adding is to add depth/space, i.e. has a longer decay and more early reflections etc than the room you recorded in. The other way around, or sometimes if you start mixing up too many types of reverb, such as putting a plate and a hall together with instruments that already have the 'room' reverb from where you recorded, you have to be careful. I'm quite lucky to have a pretty dead sounding room and I almost always DI bass to at least have that dead dry (low frequencies are typically the worst in a room unless it has significant acoustic treatment, so micing up bass cabs can be problematic).

Stuff like Steven Slate Drums and other most other drums such as Superior/EZD, DFHS, Addictive etc give you options to turn off room mics and distant micing but a lot of people forget that and start adding a lot of additional reverbs on which can conflict and cause phase and equalization problems, often easily solved by turning OFF the room mics etc which usually yields a very dry sample (sometimes overheads can still be an issue).

yep.own it.
bought it at that group buy..
used to use lots of reverbs (outboard and plugs..)
but this one takes the cake.. hadn't used another reverb since I bought it.THAT'S HOW GOOD IT IS !

(the GUI was the only thing that was buggy imo ...and only within Live)

check out the new features in the 1.5 update..
(...I would consider this a v2.0.. such a huge and important update.)
alls I can say is AETHER FTW !!!!
This project has been a very ambitious and intense development cycle and today we are finally able to share the fruits of our labor with you. Aether 1.5 represents a very significant update and offers a huge number of industry-first advances in terms of audio quality and functionality. Most reasonable companies would make this a 2.0 version and make it paid update, but we promised a while ago to make this a free update and we are honoring that promise.

Here's a quick summary of what makes Aether 1.5.0 so special:

• 2x & 4x Oversampling
• Double Precision 64bit DSP
• 64bit Host/OS Support
• Band-limited Interpolation
• Variable Quality Modes
• Extreme Off-line Render Modes
• Proprietary Spectral Modulation
• Mid-Side modes
• Cascade Control
• Complex Stereo Modes
• 0-Sample Latency
• Frequency Profiles
• Comprehensive Preset Browser
• Flexible EQ/Filter Routing
• Huge Usable Parameter Size Ranges
• Comprehensive FX Presets
• Complex Clustered IRs
• Diffuse Late Reflections Coloration
• Attack & Sustain Envelope
• Variable Q Damping Decay Curve
@Glitchrock are you LOVING this new update like me ?

Anyway I have an iLok, so this isn't an issue.

yes, bugfix/update. What don't you understand ? You had no problems ergo there was no bugs ? He didn't release 1.0.1 for shits N giggles.
As for 10.4 not being officially supported, that's pretty weak. There were no overt promises either way, but the point remains - he supported 10.4 long enough to create a large userbase...then left 10.4 users high & dry with the subsequent bugfix/update. Not to say 1.0 was a nightmare or anything. And I have no issue with 1.5 being 10.5 or 10.6 only. I do however think it's only right that the 1.0.1 release is 10.4 compatible. He said it's possible, the only inhibiting factor was time and his focus on 1.5... now that 1.5 is out I'm keen to see if he'll revisit 1.0.1

No major scandal, but I still thought it was a pretty shrift move. group buy or not...

Ya, I'm looking forward to Altiverb 7 ... which will include their own type of algo reverb to layer over & 'enhance' the convolution.
lots of user interface enhancements too, like finding similar reverbs based on impulse analysis.

which ? the lexicon or aether 1.5 ?

yep. it's my go-to algo verb for sure, great value for money... (maximum respect to elexicano 'the group buy whore' who brought it to the board's attention!)

1.5 looks sweet, and it's pretty much the only reason I'm begrudgingly going to update my OS...at some point.

^^^
I would do it NOW ! it's seriously that good of an update..
pretty lame... the compatibility issue.. but I'm guessing they have their reasons..

yep it's my go-to obviously..
too bad I can't afford to put more than 2 (LR enabled) instaces ..

btw ..when you get it to work.. check the 'granular fx' presets..
they've really opened my mind to the possibilities of this plug
seriously.. a single drum-hit can turn into a huge space/atmosphere...with the added harmonics..reverberate in there forever...

For german speaking members of the forum here is a musotalk video with a comparative test : http://www.musotalk.de/software/video/a ... rb-plugin/

Don't take it to serious though, i had the feeling the result is what the tester wanted it to be...:-).

heh, ya man. I mean I would have upgraded to 10.5 when I first found out...but I've been having difficulty finding 10.4>>>10.5 upgrade , other than a few listings on ebay which I haven't managed to snag.

10.6 is not for me right now...

1.5 looks positively mouth watering though...I don't know where to start, perhaps at the beginning ? ...what's the deal with the 2x/4x oversampling ?

cool I'll check the release notes...
but what I meant was...what's it sound like ?!
as an enhancement to the sound, is it really obvious ?

...does sound better (smoother high freqs).. but each level DOUBLES the cpu usage..

one of the good things about this update is you can use the 'high-end' modes for offline processing
while using the lower quality settings for realtime processing..

in fact ..the 2 new interpolation modes are only selectable in 'offline processing' mode
