How to get the progressive house sound with layers of chords

Post by peter_heard01 » Tue Apr 13, 2010 10:51 am

Hi,

Im trying ot get that layered chorded sound synonymous with progressive house, just wondered what the main method/process to go through to be able to do it is...?

I have attached a sample which I would love to be able to re-create but not sure how do go about doing it? If anyone could shed some light on it much appreciated.

ah good to finally be able to help others on here...

1) I built a solid drum loop with the wonky beat + bass as per most big house music(this was important for this one to push the cord along) [sounds dead without it for some reason].
2) Then I build up a solid minor chord stab on top of that loop that is basically just 'hovering' above the drum loop.
3) I then started to fiddle with the next layer which was basically two sets of minor chords stacked up on each other, I basically used stabs but lifted some of them up and down until it started to flow, was very just suck it and see method. I used slightly bigger sounds for the two higher layers, Loads of slightly detuned saws, from a sylenth 1 (This is the only synth Ive ever used I reccomend it sounds close to virus as anything Ive heard).
4) The final touch is to add the shimmering by adding a ping pong delay to one of the chord layers...

So Basically its all about stacking up the old minor chords on top of each other and adding some delay....I used steve Angello Tivoli as inspiration (which is me saing i tried to copy it).
