expert mastering advice needed - plz help

Post by zigzag » Fri Apr 16, 2010 6:09 pm

Hello all,

I've given my first track for mastering and the plot below is an average from a section of it.
I'm particularly worried about the low frequency terms < 30Hz as they are on average ~ -40dB

I need your advice on this: should I return the track for correction or accept it? Am I being too fussy?
How has your experience been with such level presence in those low frequencies?

Any help/tip would be greatly appreciated.

Warm regards

what's with the scrutiny of the spectrum? does the master sound wrong?
if it sounds good, and the mastering chap is known to know his stuff, then you're all good.
fwiw, i always cut at around 40hz, depending on the material.

well for one, i've read that you can't cut vinyl when those frequencies are prominant.
then at certain parts the sonic clarity is gone... i don't know how to explain it better. but could it be due to those?

That's not too bad at all. Anything that could affect the cutting of the vinyl will be addressed when you get it pressed. When those guys (girls) cut your master disc, they'll use the tools they have on hand to make sure it works on the record.

looks like he/she's rolled off the bass at around 50hz, which is about right for vinyl, but that would have no effect on the clarity. that'll be another issue..

If you're happy with the way it sounds, you're fine.
