RAM challenges

Post by ultrarustic » Thu Apr 15, 2010 1:14 pm

First I want to say hi, I am new to the forum :)

I'm thinking about strategies to manage large instruments to play a full orchestra pit NI kontakt sample based. I get RAM problems very fast and was trying to freeze tracks, which is good, but only relaxes my CPU but not RAM.

Is there a possibility such as to freeze a track and delete the vst-instrument from RAM as long as I don't want to edit it? It would be completely okay for me if I would have to reload the samples of a kontakt instance when I melt the track again. My only solution was to fix the freezed track as audio which relaxes all RAM of course - but then I have pure audio tracks with no more editing capabilities at all...

Any ideas?

Greetings

drag the midi track to the project folder in the browser. that will make an .als file which consists of that track

then freeze and flatten the track in the set.

if you need to go back and revisit the midi track, just drag it back into the set.

repeat as needed
