What gear do I need for using ableton live to send CV signal

Well, I can't tell exactly (please tell me the true reasons for avoiding midi if you can), but I guess the "cv-technique" shown in the video is just one way to avoid midi and get the sounds you want without massive cpu-power and complicated vst-plugins...

Analogheadz, please tell me...

BTW: I looked for a used SH-101 on ebay... the only one I found was more than 1000 Euros... that's far too much. Are any cheap units like that frostwave thingy available? Still don't know what to look for... I don't want any synth with keys...

It's hard to tell what you want or where you're coming from lark... honestly, I think maybe you need to read up a bit.

However, perhaps Doepfer's Dark Energy and a sequencer like maybe a Future Retro Orb.

the frostwave is an audio filter. it is primarily for filtering audio signals. it can self-oscillate though (making that simple tone you heard in the video, without any audio input), which is just a neat(?) trick....for about 20 seconds.

but can i ask; what is it about the video that piques your interest? if its just linking external hardware up to ableton than there other, simpler ways to get into it.

there are alot of inexpensive old synths with audio and/or midi ins..

I've never used any analogue audio gear before, so this is all new to me.
I like the direct approach from simple waveforms in live to a small external box which creates the audio. From what I've read here there are users in here that don't use midi at all. If I get it right that's because midi causes so much trouble, probably compared to older computers which are said to have "tight" midi timings.

BTW: I liked those 20 seconds of fun, but I don't want to go and dive into the analog world more than that (and that's why I don't want to buy a synth for)... but maybe that 20secs trick is just the starter drug?

sorry mate, I don't have the patience to walk you through this. You need to do some googling or wait for a kinder soul to chime in with a tutorial or some educational links.

btw I own and use a frostwave resonator, as a filter. but ya, by all means seek one out on ebay and have fun self-oscillating.
