Sorry for my comment earlier

Just frustrated that mac owners can't discuss Mac specific things without the PC loving crowd jumping in a starting things. I'm sure the PC crowd feels the same way about us too.

with USB 3.0 quickly on the rise there is no reason to worry about the E-SATA port. From what I've read usb 3.0 is faster than E-SATA. This is what I'm waiting for!!

indeed we do, and you might have missed that i AM interested in macs. for me, they are pc's (i can put windows on them), and i look at them only from that standpoint: what do i gain or lose from buying this one over others. which is what i think is the better way than the maclovers who just focus on the few options of one company.

the ipad/iphone issue is another one. why? because the company there draws the limits based on their plans on how to squeeze money out of it (and locking me into a 100% by them controlled world). but liking or disliking of a company, again, won't change what i buy.

the cheapest entry 15" sounds like a nice solid offering, one i can say to friends who buy it "it's a good choice" without lying.

and i personally think for abe-users, the i5 is the best fitting cpu.

the 13" i can't suggest (still core2duo based. you can get i5 based laptops in all sort of tiny formfactors and pricefactors since january, so getting that one wouldn't be my way. esp. not for the price.

the 17", well, too big for me (but i'd take it if one would give it to me :))

oh, and i'm glad the new ones have matte screen options (that cost more? wtf?!) and higher screen res.

i personally will get another (yes) 12" tablet convertible once i have the money for the next device. but i gladly support anyone buying that 15" apple.

hope i've cleared that up a bit. and no problem about the rant. i understand how annoying it can look like, but sometimes, it's important to have the non-fans of something discussing with the fans. giving a bit other views back.. :)

But the reason we got macs was so that we could ignore your views. Duh.

 it's actually true.

no mac user wants to go into computer mambo jumbo. (he might be as well forced too, but the reason to have one is NOT to bother with computer issues or setups, tweaks, defrags, cleanings and the lot)

oh my i did not, did i?

and none of these would be an issue today :) but as you prefer to close your eyes instead of having much choices...

:)

i'm btw still impressed (more like, shocked) on the amount of ignorance i see on this board (and in general, of musicians). each of you would love to see more people to not ignore them but instead be open minded to try out new things and listen to the music you love to create and perform. and still most in here are dickheads on their own, closedminded in "my way is the only way". be it the typical "apple only", or "analogue only" or what ever issues we see discussed here often (don't let us talk about the "i payed i don't report bugfixes" discussions :)).

i'm just scared of that. it's something i can never understand. (well, i know that some of it is based on fear and insecurity, but still.. :)).

in other news, i like the new iphone design.. :) where's an ipad in that style now?

I bet that's a mock up case, I have a feeling the new iPhones will really look more like the iPad. That just looks too..... busy, for an Apple design.

indeed. an ipad like that would look more or less like the hp slate.. (which might be why i like that iphone :))

Would love to hear people's experience in loading enourmous Live Sets (3 - 4GB+ of clips) entirely into RAM on these new machines...

Doable? Comfortable?

Please someone, make up an obscenely large Live Set wiv' lots of clips/samples, tracks and scenes, and torture-test to destruction!!

Hmm, Live did not like that experiment. My live set is about 2.6GB, and usually I stream it from the HD with no issues. Tried loading all the clips to RAM, and while MenuMeters was showing the used RAM amounts correctly, Live was glitching and stuttering like crazy. Let it sit for 10 minutes to make sure it was all actually loaded in RAM, no difference. It eventually crashed Live, after slowing WAY down. Bug reportd sent.

Thanks for testing man!

congratulations on destruction first time out of the box! :D

hmmmmm, perhaps access to copious quantities of RAM is not the salve for bigger sets? Was wanting to see what might happen if you could get everything pre-loaded into RAM and maybe any potential disk-access skips in unfriendly gigging conditions...

it will be interesting to see if silly RAM allows us to grow our current upper-limit Live Set that our 4y/o machine will allow, using normal disk-loaded/some RAM clips Live Set. 110 tracks/250scenes/3.2GB of clips with 3GB RAM on our machine. Hope so!

Yeah, I've only got a 2GHz white Macbook but I just stuck a bigger HD in it and got Snow leopard and upped it to 3GB RAM - makes a lot of difference when you're on the thing all the time

I'm actually quite surprised at the improvement in Snow leopard overall, I was expecting the usual problems with a new OS but overall I think it's been a lot more stable and definitely quicker

I don't know if anyone mentioned it yet, I'm curious about the Firewire chipset in these new machines, is it TI?

Would someone who bought it just check this and report as I couldn't find any info on the net, thanks.
