Eva the Noob...here. Question...
First background...
I am getting a handle on Ableton Live and the LaunchPad (probably going to add a faders and knobs controller (nocturn?) to my setup.
I am wondering how people setup Live for live performance...what I have been doing so far is:
8-10 tracks...keeping one audio and one midi armed for live leads via a synth....
So 8 tracks of clips setup by rows of a scenes...
Drums to the left, bass then midrange melody loops, vox,
FX hits and then drones.
Top row if the main driving peak second row next driver scene and they fall in a sort of emotional order going down to the more ethereal drones.
This seems okay...to me...for production...but I wonder if it is too complicated for performance and Transitioning between pieces is not exactly quick. (Opening a new set yada yada yada)
So I am thinking of combining some of the driving scenes into clips then using fewer tracks (two to four with AB crossfade) effects and master effects. I have never done vinyl DJ...so I assume that the way it is done on vinyl has advantages of years of trial and error to create the ubiquitous two deck AB setup....control simplicity combined with speed and ease of transitioning...so keeping performance controls on Live similar would be the way to go...have one set for production and another project template for creating DJ mix sets with multiple scenes from the multiple sets inside my production projects. Keeping my basic scene drivers as clips and then allowing live input from the synth and midi keys for live leads... One hand for the launchpad and the other on the synth...
Does this sound reasonable? Too much work...? K.I.S.S.? Or just throw caution to the wind and jump in and thrash though the sets....?
Maybe I just answered my own questions...lol
