GAFM ***that makes a lot of sense.glitchrock-buddha wrote:Maschine is not to be compared to a standalone groovebox, it's to be compared to something like a trigger finger or akai MPD32, or more accurately, one of those along side software like guru/battery/RMV.
the unfinished burrito sits on the left below the MPC.Tone Deft wrote:look at my studio setup, APC is on my right for CONTROL over the Live set. I walk over to the MPC to play drums. the LP sits in my lap and wiggles.![]()

as i got windows down to 4ms the moment it was needed, both points are valid: osx is better in that point, and, it doesn't matter really.SubFunk wrote:here you just gave yourself just one of many reasons on why to run OSX in professional audio environmentsdavepermen wrote:i know on osx the usb latency is much lower due to the architecture.

GAFM ***hm yeah scratchamp2 had low latencies.. but audio8 isn't much worse.SubFunk wrote:well i only have a 2.16 ghz C2D / 4gb ram machine myself... does the trick usually studios have not much faster computers either, just better sound cards that allow to go even lower.
my old trusty scratchamp2 allows me to reach ridiculous low latencies... with Traktor 1ms for example without a stretch. (that is the only application where i need personally super low latencies, actually i don't really need it either, but it's easy to reach them, so i use it)
don't know about maschine yet, never bothered to check that, it plays.
now i'm hungry, where's my food?!Tone Deft wrote:I wonder if my larger latencies help me have better midi sync performance than most people.
H20 - burrito and an MPC... damn, wish I was home right now.
yep, and they both sound kick ass on PAs, loads of 'pressure' actually the scratchamp2 has even a little more 'oomph'davepermen wrote:hm yeah scratchamp2 had low latencies.. but audio8 isn't much worse.

well i never read a single page of the manual (yet), no need for that, i think it says all... two hours and you jump in joy and fun twiddling around.H20nly wrote:So I have a question in regards to Maschine...
I have an MPD 24 and Battery 3.
I found the Battery software kind of funky to use... granted I maybe didn't give it a big enough going over. I love Battery's samples, but I usually would just load a preset kit and go because the fiddling seemed counter productive. Its been a while, but I seem to remember things like the cells all being in a long line rather than the 4 x 4 grid and the order being very odd (criss-crossing) on the presets that caused me to loose interest. It seemed to work one way by hand and another way all together by preset when I watched what happened while hitting this pad or that.
Is Maschine like that? I mean I realize this thread is all about the bad-assness of Maschine so anything that gets thrown in by comparison is going to get shot down. So, I'm not asking, "is Maschine better than Battery" because the response to that question is more than obvious at this point.
I guess what I really want to know is how confusing is it?...
if your little brother who had never used any music software came to you and asked you to recommend something he could learn to fiddle with while he's hanging out at the South Pole with no internet is this a viable option or should he stick with something more basic?
GAFM ***cool. I wasn't talking about your little brother... I have to admit.. I was talking about meSubFunk wrote:well i never read a single page of the manual (yet), no need for that, i think it says all... two hours and you jump in joy and fun twiddling around.
that is given you worked with audio software before and know the basics of sequencing, tweaking, sampling and midi.
a total noob probably has to go through the real small manual that it is.
as to battery, i only had once version 1 and can only remember it a little bit... but liked it.
there are NI templates specific for battery, that means there is a full auto mapping for it right out of the box, if you still like to use battery.
and then you can jump between battery and maschine and ableton control back and forth while being within ableton and twiddle everything from one box plus any other plug or function that allows midi... yum.
