APC 40 - Is it enough to start?

Hey guys,

I'm fairly new to DJing and producing. Once I'm done with school I want to get very serious with it (creating and performing music is my passion). For now, I want an ableton controller to start out with to DJ parties. Would the Akai APC 40 be enough for me to start out, or should I perhaps look into the lower end xone d products? Also, would I even need a mixer if I was just using the APC 40 to perform since I would just be mixing tracks/loops from Live.

Also, is a controller like the APC 40 worth it in the long run, or is there a high potential to outgrow it once I get really serious.

Mate, if you can't have fun with an apc40 then you're already dead.

For just starting out, the APC40 would be plenty, I'd think. Being premapped lets you dive right into using it rather than having to futz around with figuring out what mappings work best for your controller, etc.

If you were using it entirely within Live, a separate mixer would probably be overkill. Depending on what you're doing, just having an APC and maybe a little keyboard would likely be enough to let you do what you'd want to be doing.

There's always room to grow, but I don't think 'outgrowing' the APC40 is as much of an issue as it is with some other controllers.

Have you bought Live already? If not, try out the version that comes free with the APC, that might suit your needs, at least for starters.
