Creating notes for Ableton clips

Post by LaotzeSunHammer » Tue Apr 20, 2010 6:55 pm

Hi,

I'm new to DJing with Ableton and I'm wondering, is there any notepad or similar function to make notes for individual clips? It would be nice to have a quick way to indicate the song's key, mood, peculiarities, etc. Anyone have any personal techniques for this?

Cheers,

Right Click on Clip
'Edit Info Text'

The in the bottom left box you can enter any relevant text :)

I use it alot when I freeze midi tracks, and then take the audio out, write down the synth/patch I used for it.

Usually I right click on the clip and rename it. I use mixed in keys harmonic mixing system found here. http://www.mixedinkey.com/HowTo.aspx

What I do is find the key of a song (say it's E Major, which is 12B in mixed in key). Then I will add the BPM and the track info. So my tracks usually look something like this:

12E - 128 - Artist Name - Song Name

You can watch a 2 part screencast I did on my Ableton tutorial site: How To DJ In Ableton Live Part 1: Setting Up Ableton And Preparing The Songs

Enjoy!
