Yes. There's all kinds of things you can do to it: modulations, fx per voice, destructive editing,reversing etc.

Yes, there is a simple compressor per voice and also a more advanced one as an effect. (There are two insert fxs per voice as well as per group and master). As far as side-chaining, there isn't side-chaining inside machine, but there are 8 outputs. So what I would do is side-chain outside of Maschine.

Maschine and Logic is great as well. The reason Maschine and Ableton are such a great combo is because Maschine is well suited for live performance and improvisation as well. And for me, it really frees me up to use more samples, fx and hits, and not have an outrageous number of tracks. I can limit myslef to 8 tracks but if one of those is Maschine, it takes care of all my drums and many other things, and the rest of my tracks are generally for midi instruments. I don't think it's redundant at all, it was a savior to my ultimate live setup.
