Well done!
do you have a bio?

I don't have one. Maybe you can help me write it? Please populate my bio with lots of meaningless references to studios no one has heard of, albums no one bought, and clubs no one's visited.

Oh, and make sure to include grandios yet empty statements like "it was impossible to do what you wanted to musically".

:P
tsss.. when you see in berlin boy george in the cue you know that ist not a club nobody goes to...

you are pretty clueless..

beside..i was saying no to money back than.. to a lot of money..i refused to sign a major contract jeff mills wasnt to fine to sign that same day..

i am not selling ..so what is the point? you want to tell me that i am more horrible than theese money begging tom cosm guy with his remix contests and and and..

heh, well, *shrug*. I've no interest in debating the merits of 3phase's opinions or comments etc with you. you're entitled to your opinion and fully capable of making your points directly with the man himself...in whatever way you see fit. and he's quite capable of handling that.

when this topic is put to rest, it's going to be about something else tomorrow. and the discussion will play out the exact same way. food for thought.

that actually really hurts... but true..it just appears on the backside of some berlin made underground records..
no commercial stuff..no ssl desk..no 24 track :-(

but ..every production went out on record.. you find the name on an anita lane album on mute mick harvey had produced..
nikki sudden did some singles there..die haut... and other berlin underground bands nobody knows...but..

they all made theire own music..they all brought it out on records.. none of them had a major deal but they did it anyway...
I had a little studio where never a single demo was produced.. thanks to my so unknown but so skilled and dedicated professional customers.. was fun to do the best possible job for theire music.. and so I ended with 30 days the month booked..but than techno came..and i didnt had the time anymore to make money...

but that was well before the time of preset lecture tech... we really had an underground back than..

ps.. loopstation..you are a complete dickhead.
have you bought your cosm show ticket yet or are you just wanking?

in all of tom cosms tutorials he never uses presets! he is doing all from scratch and creates something new. that is the thing that inspires me to find new ways of making music. to say that this will cause generic music is like telling fairy tales. it depends on what you make out of any tutorial. of course you can copy things, but tom motivates you to do your own stuff and explore! to take part in this "song" is a fun thing to do for me. i really like what he does and i decided to support this idea! his music is for free by the way...
can´t you see it from this angle? what is wrong with this?
for everyone: there is no need to be personal, it´s a forum, can´t we just discuss topics and have different opinions on it?

Trying to conflate preset culture with a tutorial on youtube is quite a stretch. One is teaching a particular technique, the other is a doing it for you. 3Phase, you're way out on a limb on that one. The question of forum use is valid I suppose, I don't know the etiquette in that regard. Maybe it should have been a notice on his own site but criticizing the very idea of tutorials is kinda elitist.

Besides, what have you got against a guy trying to get to Europe? If it's the selling off writing parts of a song I could see how that smells funny, but if Trent Reznor did it people would say it was a fun, innovative approach. That would make it an issue of status; Trent Reznor is acknowledged by society to be a have a certain status so he can do it, but I consider Cosm my equal so I will criticize him. See how high school that is? Unless of course you think Trent Reznor is a sellout for trying to make a living by giving away a portion of his work but still charging for some of it. Or you just don't like the audience participation thing
Just my 2 cents.

just to recap what the thread is about:
COSM wrote:So you may or may not be aware that I am venturing off to the northern hemisphere at the start of June. I'll be hitting between 12 and 15 countries, including the UK, Scotland, Israel and Russia to name a few (full schedule will be up soon). I will be performing at festivals and nightclubs, as well as hosting some workshops.

It's a very exciting time, and all the flights are getting locked in, however the main flight from little old Kiwiland and back has to come out of my pocket, and it aint cheap!

Last time, I did a call out for some help for that ticket, and had enough cash to get there within a very short amount of time (thanks thanks thanks), so I thought I should try a similar thing, however this time I want to make it fun, and give something back to those who help out.

Those who help out can join up in a mass collaboration with me to write a new tune.

Choose something from the list, a sound, a melody... whatever you like. It's yours, you now own that part of the tune.

On Saturday the 8th of May, you join me in a video chat with the rest of the crew who chose an element and we have chat for a while, before I start digging into writing the tune, screen casting my screen and giving commentary as it is happening

When we get to your element, we work together thanks to the amazing interwebs on building that into what you think works with the tune. Of course the other guys get to watch and pitch in as well but at the end of the day, you have the final say.

I keep this going as long as I can stay awake.... hopefully we all get a tune well underway, and near the end we will agree on another time to meet up and get things finished.

Once the tune is finished, it belongs to you and the rest of the crew. The Ableton files, the samples, the mixdown... it's yours and no one else gets it.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how this goes, I'm finally at a stage where I have the resources I need to pull off some mad collaboration like this, and I reckon it's going to be a great way to spend a Saturday. I hope it's raining.

So if you want to be one of the team in this project, and help me out with my air ticket to the big EU, now's your chance. I have listed on my site the elements that are up for grab.

Let's see how this one goes! Cheers

...and 3phase would like people to know that he won't be contributing this time around, maybe next time.

ok convinced.. i was overreacting... the tutorials in themself dont do harm.. i just hated the formulations around selling a track in pieces like a dead horse and the general attitude..he should have made an ebay auction about the parts, at least , to make it not appear so greedy.. in such a case i also could understand that the info has to be spread on an ableton forum or elsewhere and the price for such a participation is defined by the people that are interested aswell..

ups... i hope i dont set a trend with this.. soon labels with name will let the people pay to do a remix via ebay??

bla bla blub.. that is not business here... if it would be business there would be even more reason to complain.. business is happening behind closed doors.. if a guy wants to raise funding for an expedition its about asking for contributions.. you cant really demand it..

the 'hippie way' is not going to put food in my cupboard tonight, when I am almost out of groceries and with no money coming in until the 1st of next month...I'll explain that to the supermarket manager - that he is a snake oil salesman putting flyers thorugh my door and demanding money to buy food, what a cretin - I should be able to go down there, load up 2 shopping carts and just walk out of the door with no evil cash leaving my wallet, right ?

I like this debate - people are moaning about the quality of the debate and some of those same people are wondering why this debate is going shoddy after they've called people various childish names ... if you want a meaningful debate, then act intelligently, instead of talking of dog tampons and snake oil salesmen. If you want a rubbish, childish debate, then carry on as is ...
