hrmmmm. not having a beef mate, but have you ever run a label that sells vinyl or had tracks on vinyl yourself?
The margins for artist and label are rubbish - labels certainly aren't intentionally ripping people off. Fact of the mater is that production costs and logistics are what makes it so expensive. Unless you are selling thousands and thousands of records there is really not much margin at all by the time you pay for the mastering, the plates, wax, stickers, sleaves, distributions cut, retail cut.
The overheads are massive compared to selling downloads, and it's a higher risk venture because if you don't sell enough of them you will never see your capital again. Most small-medium independent labels in electronica who sell vinyl pretty much run a model of breaking even, paying their artist a very modest rate, and having some pocket money left to get the next release off the ground.
at least that is my experience

I recon you'd have to be in the very top percentile of best-sellers to have your margins anywhere near what could be deemed ripping people off. And the top percentile of best sellers is really not what vinyl culture is about generally.

by the way this thread has official gone absolute

Indeed, it is absolutely the case I have no idea what I'm talking about. But I never let that dissuade me from my argument.

lol. at least you are gracious in defeat after putting up such a fight

Wow. Have we just seen a new forum low here? Historic really. I would re-post the picture of a dead horse that Dum (his words not mine) has used before to devastate with his clinical, cynical google skills but why bother, the damage is already done.

Touche. That was the first funny thing you've copied and pasted yet. You still need to find a better use of your time though. Being a dick doesn't really contribute anything to society, but hey it seems like your good at it. I mean that as a compliment. At least you've found your calling, tearing people down on forums by being a smart ass who, like most smart asses, isn't quite funny. Maybe it's the over reliance on visual aides in your "humor".
Edit: Goodnight.

What a fuckn joke, I respect your shit Tom, for this thread to degenerate into 12 pages of bullshit just shows what a fucked forum this is.

Wrong.
His acerbic wit is priceless.
His steadfast support of 3phase in this thread and others makes him a bit of a fluffer, but what can you do?

Just a quick question for all you COSM defenders... do you fellate all the bums you come across, or just Tom? Get a job, or call what you do your job, and quit pretending it's 'charity'
Almost as bad as that time he begged for money to upgrade his Live, so he could be current with his 'charitable' tutorials and live packs
At least some of the other salespeople come here for conversation and such, and not just for spamming/asskissing.

oh oh
maybe you should just grow up and realise that it is business and all about money (the music industry i mean)
or stay a child and do it the 'hippy way'
bla bla blub.. that is not business here... if it would be business there would be even more reason to complain.. business is happening behind closed doors.. if a guy wants to raise funding for an expedition its about asking for contributions.. you cant really demand it..
i was referring to your example about labels.
and i also question the asking for money THIS way, i said so right in the very beginning of the thread.
but i don't agree with you either, at least not with your argumentation.
