answer my question then:
I'm interested to hear why Live isn't a non-linear sequencer..

better make it good..
with personal projections of where and when Ableton took a wrong turn and what you think the ultimate non-linear software sequencer that can serve 1000's of different users at the same time should look like..

I didnt want to get involved but.... 3phase are you just jealous that the dude is making more innovative music than you? Arent you a little embarrassed taking such an anti-consumerist stance whilst making music which sounds like formulaic mortgage techno? Christ your old enough to know better than all this... are you that desperate for recognition that it doesnt even matter if most people see you as a prize tool?
Leave the hate behind my friend, go to the Panorama bar n feel the love x

sure.. laugh it up..
by not answering those questions you actually gave us an answer; you don't have a clue at all..
not that I didn't know that already, but I thought I just try one last time..

what surprises me though is that you being a musician that clearly hasn't arrived yet you spread a lot of negative self promotion on the web..
think about it..

??? the cosm guy? you are joking or?..most certainly not because his music is far form what i would call modern or mention worthy..standard 08/15 ..dont even know how to call it..minimal goa? ok..but nothing i would play in club or listen in privat to

but you cant argue about taste..

and what do you know about my music? my releases allways fitted well in theire time...and some are still played from time to time in berlin clubs...it dont happens often that techno tracks appear 15-20 years later still on the dancefloor of top clubs.. however..they havent worked as good as in the past ;-)... but the dancefloor kept moving.. i was surprised...
Besides, i never followed formulas..what you could easily hear when you would know more than 1 or 2 tracks..
however.. we cant compare that with your stuff i guess .... it is possible that an actual copy of an actual style sounds more modern than a 18 year old original..but a copy is a copy is a copy..while an original is an original

negativ self promotion? since when is talking on a internet software forum promotion? and negativ only for dickheads and fanboys.. and because thats the type i especially like that dont bothers me an inch.. besides.. hasnt arrived yet is rather funny term forsomeone some people see as retired... but sure..ist a game for livetime.. but i dont depend on my relation to ableton fanboys.. unlike some others here..

Alright, my input on all this.

Apologies to 3phase and the few others who aren't happy with how I approached this. I've noted your points and they will ultimately influence my future decisions on how I market and raise money to further my project.

I dispute the calls that reference me as a beggar, I am offering a service here, a paid service. People have asked me for paid online lessons in the past, so I thought I would put together something fun that would help these people, creating a community vibe around the whole thing, which I think is an important factor when it comes to learning something new.

I would have been interested in having a decent discussion about this concept, the whole "digital busker" idea as I have a lot to say, but that topic got turned to immature shit pretty quick so I am keeping out.

There are two particular audiences I tried to attract with this fundraiser.

People who are still learning, and would like to get some one on one style help
People who I have helped someway in the past, and wanted to contribute something back

I understand a lot of people here in the forums aren't in one of those two categories, and that seems to be the upsetting point, so I apologise for actually posting this here, I should have kept it internal to the personal community on my website.

I mainly teach beginners, I don't hide this. My passion is getting people up to speed with Ableton as fast as possible so they can start mechanizing their own way of producing and develop their own style. If you think I am failing at this I would much rather constructive criticism emailed directly to me ([email protected]) than insulting slander on a public forum. I am all up for changing if it's for the better, and am very open to suggestions.

I give SubFunk credit here, within hours of the first post he had private messaged me his thoughts on what I had done wrong, as well as suggest ways I could change things, some of which I did.

Another point I wish to make is that I am not hiding that the money raised from here is going into my pocket, or my business's pocket to be exact. Sure it will be spent on a flight, but I am not raising money for charity here (that was my mistake with the last fundraiser, something I will never do again).

Finally, thanks to all those who contributed something intelligent to this thread . It's been a great read, and will no doubt change the way I operate in the future.

This will be my last post in this thread.

Cheers

-Tom

Tom - you offered a paid service and never sugar coated it as anything else.

Your message was clear to anyone who can read, not sneaky and underhand. Some people resent other's success and using the forum for promotion, well pretty much 90% of regular posters have promoted themselves and/or their music in here at some point.

People not on board with the idea should have just walked on by, instead of us getting up towards 300 posts on the subject. Ableton's mods have no issue with your post, so you shouldn't be concerned about what a couple of others think.

You also haven't resorted to trading insults or berating someone's discography, musical or instructional skills, which is admirable given some of what has been said about you. You have been the bigger man and stuck just to the topic. As someone who has been around here for 4 years, I can say that you have given a LOT of free resources to people in this community and unless North Korea takes over the world, you shouldn't feel bad about having a career in the music business and seeking to make a living from it.

I should add that I do not subscribe to COSM's service, I don't personally know the fella, and I'm not a fanboy of his music etc. I'm not sucking up, I just don't like how some people are trying to gang rape the dude.
