Cool man. Really cool.
Will you use recordings of earthquakes as soundwaves, or will you stick with the sound of the Tsunami alone?

hey micah

have you ever heard an album called kokoon (maybe spelt cocoon) Inner Earth - its recordings where geologists and seismologists placed microphones as deep as they could into the earth in various locations and recorded earthquake activity

they then altered the sounds but not too much - mostly re-pitching and time stretching i think - but the results are amazing, like orchestras of horns and weird sounding stuff

awesome. I am working on a similar thing for an installation about Hurricane Katrina where a timeline of those events automatically create music (and video) based on time of day/day of week it's viewed.

Great work!

My only complaint is that the ends of these tracks on soundcloud have unnatural fades. You should fade them out slowly rather than so quickly and they will go from "earthquake art" to "music" i think.

Sounds great, thanks for the tip.

Now here's one for you: NASA Voyager spacecraft recordings. Track them down - the most amazing ambient music!

You'd be surprised! 8)

'Our universe is not silent. Although space is a virtual vacuum, this does not mean there is no sound in space. Sound does exist as electromagnetic vibrations.

The specially designed instruments on board the Voyager & other space probes performed special experiments to pick up & record these vibrations, all within the range of human hearing (20-20,000 cycles per second).'

Here is an example:

Absolutely some of the greatest Ambient music I've ever heard. Incredible moods on each of the 5 discs.

A 10 track version of this is available at the iTunes Music Store. But it seems that only 2 of the recordings are the same as the CD set, the other recordings are not as strong as the ones from the CD set.

Thanks for that YT link. There's so much inspirational 'related' content that comes up as well. Guess I'll have to spend tonight watching :)
