yep. note repeat and then while you use it playing with the velocity / pressure you apply to the pads (the pads are so cool and sensitive, just like on the PadK) makes fantastic 'natural' sounding drum patterns.mr.ergonomics wrote: I guess you mean using the pressure sensitivity as velocity ?

Yep would love to have this feature too. As a workaround I do it with my PK and the X-Y pad (Y mapped to a velocity device, works really well too) I sometimes map the X to note length too for even better hihat control.
Re: @ Tarekith [maschine&live]
I'm not sure about it being more limited for sound design but Maschine's fun and efficient workflow is a direct result of the well-thought out limitations in the way the dedicated controller is designed that encourages creativity, just as one would find in standalone hardware. And of course, you don't have any of the inherent limitations that are found in standalone hardware. I like how immediate and hands-on it is without needing to map or prepare anything beforehand. There's a lot you can do sound design wise with just Maschine.filterstein wrote:From reading the manual it seems that for sounddesign it's pretty limited compared to what you can do with a drumrack.
There are two insert effect slots for every individual sounds, every group, and the master section. And each sound and group also have two auxiliary outputs. You can set up send effects internally by using a spare sound slot as a return channel, or you can route signals out to external buses for processing in Live. Each pad also has standard default effects like compressor, saturator, bit rate and sample rate, and a selectable low pass/band pass/high pass/EQ section. Combined with the sends/etc, you have quite a bit of options for effects. Plenty of crazy effects as well like grain delay and grain stretch, and of course everything can be automated.
As for Drum Racks, I recommend the LiveMaschine Live template. It works as a remote midi script in Live and instantly maps to macros (with bank select), arm, sends, and volumes. The pads in Group A instantly maps to whatever pads that are in focus in Drum Rack.

yep,you can do this by modulating "decay"time with velocity.starving student wrote:maschine does this.mr.ergonomics wrote:Yep would love to have this feature too. i made today my fiirst attempt to make a full track with maschine (standalone), i still need to learn stuff and get into all the functions, and i managed to make a full blown tune with all bells ind whistles in about 2-3 hours![]()
no fuss and all that nonsense attached, just plain and simple effective.
it is so much fun and the fastest workflow on the planet.
and for the little more complex stuff, the combo Live and Maschine is absolute perfect.
It suddenly clicked into place when I worked out that 'patterns' and 'scenes' weren't exclusive; was trying to work out why my edits were carrying over to all scenes... It's 'cos the patterns aren't unique to the scenes, dope!

Re: @ Tarekith [maschine&live]
yes it's nice, but to be really "dope" IMHO maschine needs to be updated, so as to get the ability to trigger "scene pattern slots" within scenes,It's 'cos the patterns aren't unique to the scenes, dope!
i.e, like in live, the ability to trigger "group X-scene3-pattern slot" without triggering the scene 3, and having, i e, the other groups still playing patterns of scene 2.
because for now you can change patterns on the fly with "pattern mode", but it will mess the arrangement up (because pattern mode is much for song arrangment thant for live purposes I guess...)
maschine 1.5. is dope, maschine 2.0 will be the mega bomb!!
cheers

I see your point; being able to mash patterns around and then go back to your scene would be excellent.supamonsta wrote:yes it's nice, but to be really "dope" IMHO maschine needs to be updated, so as to get the ability to trigger "scene pattern slots" within scenes,It's 'cos the patterns aren't unique to the scenes, dope!

It should have been 'you dope!', though, as I felt like a right plum for not realising before!

Re: @ Tarekith [maschine&live]
Question for you:
Say I've got four pads, and each pad has three slices underneath it (accessed via keyboard mode). Is there a way to either combine all the slices onto one pad, or extract the slice from every pad and map it to a new group? I've tried 'Apply To' in the 'Slice' menu and it works (putting onto a new group) but when you 'Apply To' the second pad, it erases the samples from the first!
Thoughts?
Still loving it, FYI. First track is nearly ready to be laid down...

i think that is what makes maschine dope, it makes it a real live tool, you always need to create on the spot, you can't do any nerd fiddling like in live and then play back a 'totally' pre-made set, you need to play it every time and it will always turn out different, it forces you to be more of a musician then a computer nerd fiddler.supamonsta wrote:yes it's nice, but to be really "dope" IMHO maschine needs to be updated, so as to get the ability to trigger "scene pattern slots" within scenes,It's 'cos the patterns aren't unique to the scenes, dope!

don't you use the scenes for live playing?Subfunk wrote:i think that is what makes maschine dope, it makes it a real live tool, you always need to create on the spot, you can't do any nerd fiddling like in live and then play back a 'totally' pre-made set, you need to play it every time and it will always turn out different, it forces you to be more of a musician then a computer nerd fiddler.
or do you just "load" patterns in the scenes slots on-the-fly?
because for one to use the scenes, the ability to trigger "scene pattern slots" independantly from the scenes would really open the possibilities, and though, getting free from the premade skeletton...

Re: @ Tarekith [maschine&live]
^^^ to be honest, i did not figured (or cared) much about maschines terminology yet, i just load sounds onto pads in groups (like bank A drums, bankB bass, etc.) and created a few patterns per sound... and then just jam the hell out of it, on the fly.
that is so much fun, not much thinking involved, just music, i did not cared yet much what is happening in terms of 'structure' in the background / software. but exactly that is what i like... no freaking unnecessary computer way of thinking in a narrow minded box anymore... i can just jam and follow my musical feeling and ears...
when i look afterwards at the software, what is actually happening there... first i thought i need to understand it, then i thought fuck it, let'ts just jam another tune...
i don't know, that is what i like about it.
it feels so much more like an instrument then a computer related thing, even it does fully need and use the computer, perfect.
i don't think that the idea or request is not nice, but i hope they take it slowly with the development that it does not become to fast a nerd object and stays the musical fun and easy to use instrument that it is... less is more and raises ultimately your musical creativity.
my2cents.

Re: @ Tarekith [maschine&live]
nope, misunderstanding, i love the possibilities of computers, i don't ever want to miss a computer for music again in my life (i mean i got rid of nearly all of my hardware because of a computer and the portability which i love so much)... but i also don't like when it comes to the point of distracting from the actual musical creativity and essentially important things, such as not being influenced by numbers you read on a screen rather then relying on your ears for example...davepermen wrote:you anti-computer guy you, making us nerds sound like we're a 'bad thing'
p.s. as an example i am against 'drawing automation' instead of playing it while recording it, you get me? and those are 'diseases' that came with the computer in music... on the other hand of course it brought hundreds of advantages... every medal has two sides.
that's all.
