other than run on the battery...

share the noise

I too have this horrible problem!

I have gotten a new replacement power supply, added a Monster 1200 3 stage power filter, even had the entire motherboard of the laptop replaced. Not to mention isolating every plug and piece of gear and testing at multiple locations!

I have noise free operation when running off batteries only. Perhaps I should invest in batteries... :(

I had this too, and the simple 35cent solution (if you can get one) is a ground life adapter that converts from a 3 prong to a two prong.

Use at your own risk and all that.

I plug into a super surge protected monster cable power bar so I feel OK. :)

hope that helps.

Disconnect the ground from an extension cord or powerboard,(unscrew plug, disconnect wire from prong) make sure you insulate the ground properly with electrical tape.
Plug in laptop to extension cord or powerboard
voila no noise
checked with my dad who is an electrician/telecommunications technician, he didn't seem overly concerned that his sons life would be at risk, or the computer for that matter as the stepdown transformer on the psu would isolate any surge or spike in the power supply.
Might be a good idea to get an extra surge protector plug just to be on the safe side though.
Worst thing that could happen is you may need to get a new psu if lightning hits.

8O

I am astounded
I am filled with relief
deepest gratitude

I have struggled with this noise for so long that I cannot properly appreciate the humour of this 35 cent solution to a problem that has caused me so much anxiety

I have consulted with many a laptop tech, I live in freakin Silicon Valley!

:D :D :D

I didn't even have to go to the store... I had an adaptor in my drawer

Hum-X from Ebtech will do the trick, SAFELY

Post by nebulae » Fri Apr 15, 2005 9:40 pm

I also looked into a $0.35 solution, but got really concerned about being in a DJ booth with significant amounts of power all around me. So I looked into a safer solution:

Hum-X from Ebtech: http://www.ebtechaudio.com/new.html

You can get it online for about $49 - http://www.audiomidi.com/common/cfm/pro ... m?pid=4803

I've used it on my laptop for about a year, with no hum whatsoever in my audio. Without it, I'd get hum in my recorded audio as well as my outputs. I wouldn't run audio on a laptop without Hum-X.

Sorry to sound like a freakin' commercial endorsement :)

Big noise problems with my laptop at present :(

Thanks.
