I need some advices :-)

Post by AntVusten » Wed Apr 28, 2010 10:18 am

Hi,

I am working on a song that is almost finished. This song took me a lot of time and I would like to know if there are some kind of obvious things that you think that I should change.

Thanks a lot for your time :-)

2:02 - Nice guitar sound, shame it barely makes much of an appearance!

3:03 - Like what you've tried to do here, but the percussion feels a bit out of time. Try tightening up the shakers.

5:11 - Almost the Eagles. Nice :)

Overall, it's not bad, you're clearly a good musician with a solid knowledge of chords and song structures.

What does need work is your mixing: the drums are far too low in the mix, and the EQ is a bit off, those tend to be the things that make home productions sound as such. Try adding some compression on the master bus to even things up a bit and go from there.

Also, your section changes are somtimes quite abrupt, the one at 1:26 is especially odd as it's an extra bar tacked onto an 8 bar phrase.

I like the idea though, it's almost Mars Volta/Muse-esque in the epicness. It just needs some tightening up. Also, vocals would definitely be a plus on a 7+ minute song ;)
Some stuff, and some other stuff. Honest.

Hello Fred. I think Ed J's comments are spot on so I don't have anything to add. Just wanted to let you know I listened. Thanks for sharing bud.

Great thanks for that. Its good to have some real feedback , that will help a lot. Sometime you are so use of your song that you cant hear what is wrong with it.
I will listen "Hotel California " again, your are not the first person to tell me that ;-)

Anyway, Thanks heaps.
