Live Lite and Live Intro installation side by side ?

Post by collaborator » Thu Apr 29, 2010 2:52 pm

Hello

I have Live Lite M-Audio installed on my PC ( Windows XP ) now I just bought Live Intro ( Boxed )

Do I need remove Lite first to install Intro or they can be installed side by side ?

Thanks

I'm not sure about Lite and Intro, but its most likely the same and running Intro and a full version of 8 side by side. Every time you want to open the other program you have to rename the unlock.cfg file manually and re authorize the version with its serial.

That's a little bit complicated and confusing, because you need to (manually) change the files that store Live's unlock state.
Ableton Support wrote:In case you really need to run both versions, rename the "unlock.cfg" file to "unlock-full.cfg", then restart Live and authorize it again with the Intro serial number. You will now find two unlock files: another "unlock.cfg" (this one now contains the Intro unlock) and the other file that you had renamed ("unlock-full.cfg"). If you want to launch the full version, rename the unlock.cfg to "unlock-intro.cfg" and the "unlock-full.cfg" back to "unlock.cfg" and so forth.

You can find the unlock.cfg file in the following folder:

Mac OS X:
~/your username/library/application support/ableton/live x.x.x/unlock/unlock.cfg

Windows XP:
c:/documents and settings/[your username]/application data/ableton/live x.x.x/unlock/unlock.cfg

Windows Vista:
c:/users/[your username]/appdata/roaming/ableton/live x.x.x/unlock/unlock.cfg

---------
NOTE: on some Windows systems the 'application data' folder (in Vista: 'appdata') is hidden by default. Here is what you have to do to make it visible:
- Launch Windows Explorer.
- Select 'Tools -> Folder Options -> View'.
(in Vista: 'Organize -> Folder and Search Options -> View')
- Check 'Show hidden files and folders'.
---------
The way I understand it is that you should not need to remove Lite from your system but rather you will be unlocking further features that are just hidden from you. Unless you are relying heavily on the limited set up of Lite I am not sure why you would keep it available while having Intro.

All the Best. G.
