i hope so.

whatever the case, the midi/key assignments for loop controls will have to be on some kind of global basis (track or project) because its not practical to do it on a per clip basis

the per track way seems like the best way, because then it leaves other tracks to be configured in other ways for other purposes ...

gee another thing we have to wait for the beta to find out, then listen to half of the people bitch about how it "should have been done"

I totally agree with you guys on the assignments thing. When you make a midi or key assignement, you should get 4 options as to what it affects:

- clip
- track
- scene
- global

This would solve many of my midi issues with Live :)

Heres the way I do it, for what its worth. Drag your favorite track into the session view. I assume you already have the warp markers set. Set a 2 or 4 bar loop somewhere in the intro of the soong. Make sure you have "loop" turned on. Now copy and paste that clip right below itself. Play the clip you just copied. Click on the loop bar at the top of the loop marker. use the up and down buttons on your keyboard to move it to another position in the song. If you notice, it moves in real time. Continue doing the copy and paste thing. that way you can have separte loops of the intro, the verse, the chorus, etc. Also you can move those loops around while they are playing to do an "on the fly" remix. Its fun to do that in the vocal parts to mix up the lyrics, as it stays in time.
Another fun thing to do is to take one of the clips, use the "offset" function to draw your changes...you can totally mix the beat up and that can be done on the fly as well. if you are using an audio interface, you can prelisten, just like the cue ona DJ mixer...you can see what your offset beats are gonna sound like ahead of time.

i am also gonna buy the evolution controller....i definetly have plans to assign the EQ3 functions so I can do bass cuts, as well as assigning the sends to maybe the ping pong delay....try that on a phat beat that has been offset...turns it into a whole new groove!!!

Vinyl is fun and nice to touch and it smells good....but Ableton allows for INSANE creative flexibility.

in Live 5, the MIDI controls assigned to setting loop points, setting start and end points, transpose, gain, nudge, and brake always affect the currently selected clip.

if you're triggering clips from a MIDI keyboard or a computer keyboard, a clip is always selected when it is triggered.

i thought per-track would have been better, but this has its advantages too...

"okay i have set up some channels and then some send channels with efx on their - namely supertrigga, reverb and delay. how can i make the channel volume go down as the send comes up - this is really annoying cause you get a flanged/phased sound otherwise, also its almost impossible to do it manually without dips in output volume.... "

well..this may be a bit sophomoric, but i have 2 controllers active; an x-sesion on my left hand and an ozone on the right. id like to add a doepfer as a 3rd controller for live 5 when it comes out...

anyway, on the x-session, the bottom row is 5 track volumes (2 tracks for deck a, a cue track,2 tracks fr deck b) followed by a cue volume and a master volume. the top rom works hi and low cut for eq-3 on the 4 deck trax. the ozone works 2 sends per channel for the deck tracks. a simple matter of ambidexterity then. :)

Look for Utility Trick, where you "send" your signal to send A with a invert utility on it, the send from the A send goes to the B send which is where your effect is. Rt click on the A send B knob and "enable" or your going to feel like an idiot until you read a few more pages.

how do you guys cycle trough your music library while djing using a the keyboard or apc?

i can open the file browser option+cmd+B but i can only cycle trough the list using the keyboard arrows after clicking it with the mouse.

is there a way to do this without a mouse? looked everywhere but can't find it!

To put your cursor into the Browser, try Alt+left arrow a few times.
