Poor Quality Rendering

Post by soundsliketree » Sun Feb 02, 2003 8:45 pm

I have been experiencing weird clicks and a strange out-of-phase (L/R) sound when rendering my arrangement to disk. In order to get a result which sounds like the arrangement when it is played within Live I have had to play it out through S/PDIF, record it on to a DAT, and then reimport it. While it is nice to know that I have this workaround, it would be even better to be able to have confidence that the Render To Disk function would produce exactly the same result.

Hi soundsliketree,

do you have a song where you can reproduce this behaviour always? Would be nice to have such one to find this problem.

Maybe you can make a copy of that song and reduce it as much as possible. Then you could send me the resulting (hopefully not so large) song saved as selfcontained.

regards,
Alex

i'm having the exact same problem in 2.01

when rendering to disk i have these clicks and crackles on two tracks out of 8. it's actually a mix set of mine - a 45 minute file. the whole mix is set at 135bpm and the two tracks that crackle are 133 and 134bpm. i am using the repitch warp function and when playing it back from live, it sounds fine. after rendering it the crackling starts. very annoying.

i would love to send a file to someone at ableton to help solve this issue.

Hi horizens,

I'm not sure if I exactly understand the problem you described.

I think there are two possible alternatives:

1) A renderd audio file itself contains clicks but the song in Live plays fine.

2) Playing a song in LIve works fine until someting is renderd. After that there are clicks on all or some tracks. It seems that some of these problems related to tracks containing VST's.

However you should try to reduce the 'bug' song as much as possible (without reducing the buggy behaviour -:)). Then save it as selfcontained, compress it (zip, rar, sit,....) so that you can send it to me with a short description how to reproduce the bug.

regards,
Alex

thanks for the quick response, alex.
when i have time in a few days (hopefully) i'll play around some more and see how consistent it is. right now my file folder is 1gig - so it'll take some whittling...
meanwhile, if anyone else has this experience with a small project it'd be great if you could send it to alex.
thanks everyone!

p.s. any word on the release of an update to 2.0.1 which addresses the recording, browser, and MIDI clock issues?

This problem seems to be related to having VSTis in your plugin folder.

I copied only VSTs from my steinberg plugins folder to the ableton's plugin folder and now render works fine.
