Ok I love Ableton. Am about 200-300 gigs down the line. Previous MBP was bombing so just acquired a new i7. Thing is I now have to use a firewire 800 > 400 lead with my RME fireface 400 and the Firewire 800 connection is pants to say the least. Got nudged out last night by a good friend (not his fault) and resulted in 4 mins of silence (which may be a good thing considering the rubbish i play).
Anyone know what is the best option? I see RME have an ethernet box but requires power. Does anyone make a breakout box for MBPs? These limp flaccid weedy connections are not floating my boat...
USB 2.0? Ethernet? Go home?

Re: Most gig-friendly interface connection
i hear you...
gravis, i don't know if they exist in england, i recall not... but maybe now yes (it's been a few years that i was living in london)
they have cables that are like the original apple firewire 400 wires, but in 400->800 (apple after my knowledge does not make those 400->800 yet
), those have a much, much tighter fit, the plugs are somehow slightly different compared to the generic cables you get... also they are super thin and way more flexible... and i tend to wrap them once or twice around my griffin elevator stand i use, so i have a little protection against pulling it out. that does the job...
maybe that helps.
p.s. i try to find a pic of the cable online and post it, so you get a better idea what i am talking about.
here you go, it's in german, but those are really different to the generic crap.

Re: Most gig-friendly interface connection
I have the same issue with loose-fitting USB cables. Every gig I'm scared the controller will stop working.
