I'll look into the device control, must have broken something
ST8, having the installer use bonjour hostnames instead would be great so we won't need to configure the ip each time, since the hostname shouldn't change between ip changes.

For some reason, using my bounjour name (.local) as Host in TouchOSC's network setting doesn't get the signal from TouchOSC to Live but putting the actual ip address in there makes it work. My config has the bonjour name for local.

They need to end with . so it should be st8s-macbook.local.

This seems to work for me, but it takes a few minutes for the ipod to announce its bonjour name to the network, so its a bit flakey, i need to test some more :)

I've added a toggle switch the installer that flicks between ips/hostnames, ill try and get this uploaded soon. Working on splitting the xy pad in 4 on the ipad and getting the device control / xy pad to lock to devices.

Ah, thanks. I'll try that. Is that just for the TouchOSC Host field or do I also need to do the have . after local in the config file as well?

INCREDIBLE WORK!, I put this touchosc template on my pad at first sight.
A week later looked back at forum saw update and bingo,
A TRULY GREAT LIVE CONTROLLER, one that I will have on me without fail.

My issues are---- I can't get the sequencer to work?

I've got my clip isolated and can see it in touchosc
but the "writing" of new notes within clip from ipad
is very unstable. It worked about 6 out of ten times.
Many times leaving notes up until I pressed corrosponding
blank control note in touchosc a couple times to turn it on then
off again.

Also, I noticed on the xy page some control parameters, when chosen immediately cut out
upon touching the xy?

Any help would be super fresh.

ps again, GREAT WORK! :

I can't get this to work, and when I do, the sequencer will not work.

I get red box and controlling clips etc. then it just stops working, literally out of the blue random. Windows XP running ad hoc.

Help?

When I do that (with my own hostnames of course) in my config, it stops working (and I lose the red box around the clips in Live). Same thing with the TouchOSC network settings. I need to use the ip addresses to get it all working.

It would be nice to make it set-it-and-forget so that we won't need to check the ip addresses every time we use it, which is how it is for me at home since I've set my dhcp ip manually but if I'm playing out I would need to put it into ad-hoc network mode. I'm assuming of course, that if using Bonjour host names for everything instead ip adresses works like I think it should, then I wouldn't need to change any settings whether I'm using regular wifi or ad-hoc network. It's not that big a deal since I only have to check it when playing out. It's probably a good idea to make sure in those situations anyway.

hmm, on mac? seems to work for me. Ive found i need to run the LiveControl app just before starting Live and TouchOSC to get the hostnames announced to the network but then it seems to work. Still more testing needed

Nice work, ST8! It would be great to have the ability to adjust metronome volume. Please consider adding that. :)

hi all,
to st8 big compliments! thx!
for my situation using livecontrol on winxp is, it works for both ports (outgoing and incoming).
sometimes the local ip address changes for some reason i don't know and i don't care.
so i check my livecontrol_to.txt when something goes wrong.
I like to report the following:
1.) working in ableton live. you create tracks, as much you can see on your ipod (7x4),
fill it with clips, group these tracks and receive one track.
2.)in livecontrol for some reason you see blank clips, but you can trigger the clips and scene launchers.
no "stop" function on that track, but "stop all" works.
what do you think st8?
would the matrix be very effective if you can use groups too? not so much srolling down?
is the compexity a lot?
thanks for your ear.

Yeah. I'm on Macbook Pro. 10.5.8. Live 8.1.3
I wasn't using the installer with my latest testing just to be clear. I wasn't sure whether you had updated the installer for Bonjour hostnames yet.

Amazing work and many thanks! My only humble request is to have octave up and down button via modifier in the step sequencer. It would make it much easier to navigate. Again greatly appreciated.

I have very limited experience with networks, so here's my question: can this be used with only a computer & iPod/iPad, or is an Airport, or other wireless network device required?

Yup. On the mac, you can choose Create Network... from the airport menu to create an "ad-hoc network" from your computer to iPod/iPad.

Excellent, thanks. What functions as the wireless provider, the iPod/iPad?
