Jomox T-Resonator?
Jomox T-Resonator?
I'm looking into this for processing digital and analog synths. My chief concern is that a lot of the demos online lean toward noise generation and crazy sound effects. Can anyone speak to whether this box can produce more, for lack of a better term, "musical" effects. I'm not really too into noise and distortion.

mines due next week, i'll let you know...
i have played with an m-resonator a fair bit and it can be used musically (as a dual filter) but you might be better off looking at something a little tamer? as far as good filters go the jomox stuff is pretty reasonably priced but it's certainly a little more 'out-there' than most of them. in my opinion that's a good thing as it can encourage creativity but it depends on your specific needs really. your best bet might be to see if you can find somewhere that'll let you have some hands on time with one.

Re: Jomox T-Resonator?
I'd like to hear some fresh new 2010 opinions and feelings about the T-res by jomox.
I'm thinking of getting one T-res, and use it as a send/return FX for my ableton tracks and synth tracks, to add some crazy drones and hardcore weirdness, and also like a separate 'instrument' for live gigs when I dive into improvisation rave stuff...
- is it easy to get a simple filter or delay, without going wild? (is it capable of staying "in the line" ?)
- is it really dangerous for the audio system, say, if I put a compressor/limiter in the ableton track that receives the T-res output, is it OK, or is there always a risk to damage something (soundcard inputs...)...?
I can buy it for 100 euros, second hand, but I can't test it (no such stuff in the shops of my town, and the seller lives at the opposite of my country...)
cheers

Go for it.
I don´t know it, actually, but for 100 EUR it´s worth a shot.
It sells for nearly the double on ebay if you don´t like it...

Re: Jomox T-Resonator?
Thanks, I go for it, I WANT this frakking live audio mangling device!!! and indeed, the price I have is really interesting
1) for my 1st question I have an answer from youtube videos, and YES, it is clearly capable of "simple" delay or filtering stuff, one just have NOT to push the pots too far from center positions...
2) my 2nd question is till un-answered,
at least 3 times in the official manual they make a warning (audio system and ear danger...), about using the feedback loops, and they officially advise to use a limiter,
but I still don't know if a limiter from the DAW is enough, since the signal goes into the soundcard BEFORE entering the limiter plug...
and I would not like to destroy my motu ultralite...
any idea about that??
cheers

Re: Jomox T-Resonator?
good question, to which I don't have an answer
I'd email your soundcard's support crew....
I have one and it is a wicked, evil effect. It is indeed dangerous without a limiter, and you will enter those dangerous territories pretty easily. I've noticed people selling it on because of this and they were mostly interested in the time based effects aspect of the unit. If that's what you're really interested in, PERHAPS you should look elsewhere...if I was expecting it to be a reliable delay/reverb I'd have sold it on too.
but for 100euro, seems like you can just buy it and sell it on without a loss if it's not for you.

Re: Jomox T-Resonator?
I already have a hardware reverb delay, and mostly use the DAW for that purpose,
what does attract me with the T-resonator is the frakking hardcore feedback facility and drone weirdness that it is capable of, even without audio input...
but it is also good to know if , sometimes, it is also capable of gentleness...
I tend to think I'll need an hardware limiter to protect my soundcard... (I'm pissed off, why didn't jomox implement a limiter in the T-res???? )
so now I'm searching for cheap limiters, only for the jomox... any advice?
(for now, I found Samscon S com plus, around 80euros 2nd hand, and the DBX 166XL, around 130 euros 2nd hand...)
any advice will be appreciated.
cheers

Re: Jomox T-Resonator?
Hi, I contacted Jomox, and they gently replied :
but it sounds good heh
I just don't understand this quote :
cheers
I just have now to check my soundcard specs, for its ability to receive +5/-5V / +13dBu...JOMOX wrote:aah,
if your sound card sucks, you need a HARDWARE limiter, but in most cases the units can stand the maximum level which is not that bad: +5/-5V (~about +13dBu) maximum swing...but the dynamics is so bad and therefore you need limiting (if you don't know how to tweak it so you get the right results;)

Re: Jomox T-Resonator?
He's probably saying that it's capable of such wide dynamics (i.e., large changes between quietest and loudest levels it makes) that you'll need some kind of compression/limiting somewhere, be it hardware or software, otherwise it could damage your speakers.supamonsta wrote:Hi, I contacted Jomox, and they gently replied :

Re: Jomox T-Resonator?
Hi, got an answer from motu :
I understand I'll be fine without any hardware limiter between the jomox and the ultralite, but I'll have to use a limiter plug inside Live... (I got the free L2 limiter, and I read somewhere that the live 7-8 compressor could also do the job, so that's OK)
no need to by a dedicated limiter for the T-resonator!!!!!
GREAT!
Solved.
Cheers
so, as the jomox resonator is said by jomox to be able to output a maximum level "about +13dBu",The UltraLite's back panel TRS inputs can accept a maximum input signal of about 18 dBu.
