For launchpad owners who dont like Automap popping up (Win)
For launchpad owners who dont like Automap popping up (Win)
Hi. Just got the launchpad and I love it! However, after installing Automap I found I really disliked it popping up everytime I fired up Live. Now, for some simple steps:
1) Go into "C:\Program Files\Novation\Automap" or wherever you installed it ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Novation\Automap" for 64-bit windows)
2) Rename "AutomapServer.exe" to something like "AutomapServ.exe", then create new links or update your existing ones to point to this file instead. I read some post here that said to move the file out from the folder and whatnot, but thats really not necessary.
3) Start Automap by using these links, whenever you FEEL like it.
Just wanted to share, in case some of you have been getting gray hairs over this.
Cheers,
Chris

thanks, i actually uninstalled automap cause it would talk so long for ableton to load and sometime certain midi controllers would not be seen because (i think ) that the computer was having to deal with automap.ChrisIhao wrote:Hi. Hehe. No problem Headrick. Cant help you with that, but glad to see someone benefited from my post.
Turning off opacity helps somewhat imo. I found the opacity horrible to look at when trying to get an overview over 64 pads

Thanks, it cut loading by 3/4 I think. Dont use it for SL either if not that Nocturn wont work without I would love to say au voir to the bloody bonjour.

Good to hear rikhyray.
I think these things should have been selectable upon install instead of having to mess around with half assed solutions like mine. Maybe something like this:
1) Autostart automap whenever a daw that support it is started
2) Autostart automap when starting X program from X location
3) Never autostart automap

Re: For launchpad owners who dont like Automap popping up (Win)
Agreed. I'm getting into automap at the moment tho'. I'm using it as a second control surface for my launchpad (using the user config file) - so user 2 now does 'blue hand instant mapping' for live devices. Toggling between automap and launchpad remote script is achieved by pressing 'session'+'user1'+'user2' and then'down'.
Re: For launchpad owners who dont like Automap popping up (Win)
Absolutely, I had to install Automap again and noticed that Live again took eternity to load, I think your trick reduces to 10%, Live gets ready to go in few seconds.ChrisIhao wrote:Good to hear rikhyray.

There are more issues with Automap, specially with using Nocturn for various applications, Novation couldnt help with it ( I asked directly at the Messe) have my own workarounds but in the end gave up using Nocturn with Live because it all gets messy in unpredictable ways.
Re: For launchpad owners who dont like Automap popping up (Win)
Can the Launch Pad be used without installing Autocrap?
From what I've been reading, it's not just plug & play?

Thank you, .. so you would just hook it up, make the selections in Prefs. for it .. no drivers to load? (Mac here)
Sorry, but I'm not a lover of Novation installs .. and will steer away if thats the case.

i guess you'd just rename the AutomapServer.app in your Applications folder...madhatter wrote:How do you do that on a Mac?
