Pretty basic - seemingly unable to create a New Project?

Post by --m-- » Thu May 06, 2010 11:10 pm

In the past I've been pretty disorganized with regards to projects, files, and the like, and i'd like to change that.

Well, I seemingly can't, despite my best intentions.

I can't for the life of me create a New Project in Live. As far as I know, and as far as the Manual explains(yes i've actually read it), the only way to create a new project is by right-clicking in the File Browswer scrub area. However, relatively recently, that option has been unavailable to me - it's grayed out, as pictured below. Not sure why, or how to change it.

So... if anyone can advise how to reset things so that I can create new projects, or alternatively, an alternate way to create new projects, i'd be most appreciative!

Top left: File Menu > New Live Set.

Or hit apple/command-N

Thanks, but I think maybe I didn't explain myself well enough.

A new set is no problem. I want to create a New Project.

This makes all the difference in organizing your sets, which is the big issue I have right now.

So, since for some reason Live does not let me right-click to create a New Project, how can i otherwise start one?

You can't create a new project within a current project. You're not trying to create a new project inside the Live library (which is itself, confusingly, a project) are you?

I think I may be missing something really obvious or fundamental here.. so bear with me.

I open up Live, navigate to the File Browser scrub area, and... following the manual to the letter... right click on the empty scrub space in order to create a New Project. Now that is exactly what the manual says to do, but creating a New Project is simply not an option here.

If by opening up Live you are automatically placed within an existing Project, then I guess this procedure would indeed result in me trying to create a new project within a project, but I don't think this is the way Live behaves.
And to further this reasoning, it doesn't matter whether the Library is the particular File Browser highlighted or not, I am not presented with the option of creating a new project(as pictured above).

I dunno, I feel I must be missing something incredibly simple, and this is certainly not the way Live has always behaved for me, but i'm at a loss to explain this or know what to do....

Much thanks in advance!

you have to click on one of the file browser buttons on the left (directly under the plugin button) and then use your right click context menu.

You can only create a project somewhere on your computer, so you need to click on one of the 3 small folders underneath the "TAP" button and select "Desktop" then choose a place to put it.
hope that was easy to understand?
